  • Dancing Queens

    The North Oldham Middle School dance team attended Eastern High School’s Dance Expo on Dec. 6, competing with their hip hop and pom routine, winning first place in both. Members of the dance team are: Grace Aleksevitch, Holly Brink, Kylie Dombrosky, Savannah George, Cori Goodknight, Sarah Hare, Logan Hart, Brie Johnson, Tiera Lanham, Valeria Lopez, Chelsea Norton, Joanna Oser, Hannah Richardson, Kaitlynn Richardson, Alycia Spangler, Mackenzie Stegeman, Michaela Tong and Casey Wohlgemuth.

  • Fouch named to dean’s list at Lindsey Wilson College

    Sarah Fouch of Crestwood,  a freshman at Lindsey Wilson College studying elementary education, has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester.

    Students named to the dean’s list have a semester grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in 12 hours of academic credit.

  • South Oldham debate team competes at Waggener

    The South Oldham High School Debate Team competed at Waggener High School on Nov. 8. Jordan Yarberry was named runner-up for Best Overall Debater in the Novice Division. Also competing for SOHS were Alexis Miller and Adam Farr.

    From the close of one of the great high school athletic careers in the state’s history to first-time success by teams and individuals, 2008 brought more than its share of sports success to Oldham County. It was a year that saw teams and individuals claim honors for both past and present exploits in a variety of sports. While there are always too many stories to tell, and not enough time and space, here are The Oldham Era’s top 10 sports stories for the year:

  • Pets of the Week

    Elwood is a good-tempered beautiful pup. He’s only six to eight months old, already neutered and leash-trained and full of life. When the light hits him right he’s a gorgeous dark brown and white. Oreo is a loving black and white male cat. He’s extremely friendly, even after being rescued from an abandoned apartment.     It’s a surprising sight in Oldham County. Used carpet thrown in the brush along with window frames and plastic bags full of leaves — what appears to be an illegal dump site.
