  • North stars return

    LA GRANGE - Hoping the home field advantage may be just the edge they need, the North Oldham Little League Senior All-Stars are primed for another run at the state softball title.

    The All-Stars will start their run at the title after winning the District 2 championship for the second year in a row last week at Nelson County. The state tourney for both the senior and junior divisions will start at 4 p.m. Saturday at Walsh Park in La Grange.

    Race track slots would help state

    To the editor:

    If you asked someone what Kentucky is known for, you would most likely hear “horses and tobacco.” However, in the past few years, both have seen more than their fair share of hard times. It is almost as if our state representatives are crippling what Kentucky is known for with their decisions made in the name of saving Kentuckians from themselves. 

  • Brewer, Elsenbroek graduate from basic

    U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Adam L. Brewer and Airman Eric J. Elsenbroek recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in  San Antonio.

    They completed eight weeks of training in military discipline, values, physical fitness, and basic warfare.

    Brewer is the son of Laura and Dave Brewer of Crestwood and a 2003 graduate of South Oldham High School. Elsenbroek is the son of Eric C. Elsenbroek of Crestwood and a 2006 graduate of Buckner High School.

  • Two from Oldham graduate from Centre College

    Two Oldham students recently graduated from Centre College.

    Allison Perkins earned a degree in mathematics, and graduated cum laude. Perkins is the daughter of Doug Perkins of Crestwood and an Oldham County High School graduate. 

    Ryan Smith earned a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. Smith is the son of Jeff and Diane Smith of Crestwood and an OCHS graduate.

  • Engagement Announcement

    Ron and Arrita Summers of Dover, Tenn. announce the engagement of their daughter, Samantha Sara Summers to Andrew Devin Hart, son of Ralph and Sue Hart of Crestwood. 

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Melvin and Beth Rowe and the late Charles Wigand, and Gene and Dianne Summers, all of Dover. She is a 2004 graduate of Dickson County High School and employed by Hanson Pipe and Precast in Winter Haven, Fla.

  • Campers get a taste of everything

    BUCKNER - The campers at this week’s Oldham County Youth Football Association Camp got a little a bit of everything.

    More than 120 campers shift between three offensive and three defensive stations where they work linebacker drills with Oldham County head coach Matt Brown, running back drills with North Oldham’s Billy Martin and passing sets with South Oldham’s Clay Holbrook.

    In addition there are offensive and defensive line sessions and a defensive back station with assistant coaches and local high school players.

  • Oldham County Day is this weekend

    Courthouse Square will be filled with fun Friday and Saturday as residents gather to celebrate Oldham County Day, a decades-old tradition sponsored by the Project Guild of La Grange. 

    Friday festivities include a 5K run/walk starting at 7 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church and a city-sponsored street dance with live entertainment in downtown La Grange. 

    Saturday is packed with fun for all ages, including a pancake breakfast, parade, booths and games for children.

  • Gish announces candidacy

     

    And the race is on.

    Oldham County Deputy Judge-Executive Paula Gish is first to formally announce candidacy in the 2010 Oldham County judge-executive’s race. 

    Gish made the announcement July 8 during a backyard barbecue at her Goshen home to a group of supporters, including many from county 

    government.
