  • OCHS qualifies three for state meet

    LOUISVILLE – Three Oldham County High School golfers have qualified to play in the state tournament after qualifying in their respective regional meets Monday and Tuesday.

    For the OCHS boys, Taylor Riggs qualified shooting a 76 at Seneca Golf Course. He was three strokes behind individual champion Justin Thomas of St. X who shot a 73.

    St. X won the team title with a score of 309. OCHS tied for sixth with KCD at 335 while North Oldham was one stroke behind at 336.

  • Author encourages writers of all ages

    A resident of Lexington, Lyon is the author of more than 37 books and poems, including “Sleepsong” and the poem “Where I’m From.” During the course of two days Lyon met with students, teachers and parents at Buckner Elementary, sharing her work and the writing process with aspiring writers. 

    At a meeting with the PTA Sept. 22, Lyon presented parents with different ways to encourage writing, even if their child was not a writer.

    Donald L. Renn, 24, 1909 Fendley Road, La Grange, arrested by OCPD Sept. 27, DUI, possession of open alcoholic beverage. 

  • Down Syndrome of Louisville Inc. hosting 5K run/walk Saturday

    Down Syndrome of Louisville Inc. is hosting a walk and 5K run Saturday at Waterfront Park.

    This year’s theme is “We’re on the Move.”

    Registration begins at 8 a.m. Pre-registration is $18, registration the day of the event is $20.

    The 5K run begins at 8:15 and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. 

    The event also includes live entertainment, special guest appearances and a kids’ fun zone.

    The event is presented by Insuramax and Wal-mart.

  • Locust Grove Elementary School PTA offering flu clinic

    Locust Grove Elementary School PTA recently announced a new effort to help keep children healthy so they reach their full potential –“Let’s Fight the Flu Together!”  

    The Center for Disease Control now recommends that all children from six months through 18 years of age should be immunized.  PTAs throughout the country are working with Flu Busters, a leading provider on on-site vaccinations, and Novartis Vaccines, to host a community vaccination clinic at Locust Grove Elementary School.

    Lucas Wayne Heber recently celebrated his first birthday.

    Born July 17, 2008, Lucas has two older siblings, Tiffany Doty, 14, and Jacob Doty, 9.

    His parents are Art and Jeannean Heber of La Grange.

    Maternal grandparents are Shorty and Judy Chesser of La Grange. Paternal grandparents are Bill and Jenny Heber of Rising Sun, Ind.

  • River Daze has great weather, local support

    To the editor:

    The 10th annual Westport River Daze festival was a huge success.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather and a prettier day.

  • Centerfield wins Hillbilly Run

    BARDSTOWN – The Centerfield Elementary cross country team won first place at the Nelson County Hillbilly run Saturday  in Bardstown.

    It was Centerfield’s first  team win of the season and the second year in a row the boys’ team won the Hillbilly Run. Centerfield’s Devin Boyle took the individual title with a big kick in the final half-mile to give Centerfield a one-point win over Kenwood Station.

  • Dollars for Scholars begins sixth year awarding scholarships

    Oldham County Dollars for Scholars is preparing to award scholarships to the graduating classes of 2010.

    In preparation for this year’s awards, OCDFS’ annual public meeting will take place at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Oldham County Public Library in La Grange. The meeting is open to all who are interested in learning about the program.
