  • Judge Jones Sworn In

    Last week Allison Jones took her official oath, being sworn in as the new Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge for the 6th Appellate District, Division 1, which includes Oldham County. 

    Elected officials and judges from across the state gathered in the Campbell County Courthouse in Newport to celebrate Jones’ investiture as the newest member of Kentucky’s Appellate Court. 

    Judge Jones, who has decided to locate her office in Campbell County, replaces current Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Michelle Keller, who swore her in.

  • Two Die in I-71 Accident

    A three-car accident temporarily shut down Interstate 71 on Saturday night.

    Oldham County Police responded to the accident at 9:21 pm Saturday, near mile marker 14 in Crestwood.

    Donald Pickett, 71, of Flatrock, Ind., was reportedly driving a 2006 Volkswagon the wrong way on southbound I-71 when he struck Victor Chavez, 27, of Louisville, who was driving a 2007 Infiniti, head-on.

  • FAKE SYRUP AND CHILLED RED WINE

    When I asked the German flight attendant for ice water, he responded, “One U.S. drink, coming up! You Americans think you are healthy, but your drinks are very unhealthy. You drink everything so cold. Sometimes, even your red wine!” 

    It was the first time in my life I had been told that ice water was unhealthy. I refrained from pointing out that he hails from a country where pork is served for three meals a day, plus snacks; and sometimes that pork is raw.  If anything cold is unhealthy, raw pork tops the list. 

  • OC Water District Receives State Honor

    The Oldham County Water District has received the highest award given to rural water districts in Kentucky.

    The district is the 2013 recipient of the Kentucky Rural Water Association’s Wooden Bucket Award, which is given to a water or wastewater utility that has made “substantial and lasting improvements in providing high levels of customer service,” as well as increased quality of their operations, according to the association.
