Christina Bizzle, daughter of Steven and Donna Bizzle of La Grange, attended the 2007 Commonwealth Honors Academy at Murray State University and participated in a three-week academic scholarship program. Students completing the academy receive six hours of college-level credit and have the opportunity to take six additional hours, tuition free, at Murray State University during their senior year in high school. They also receive a four-year housing scholarship if they choose to attend college at Murray State.

More than $18,000 worth of scholarship dollars and more than $1 million of in-kind gifts were up for grabs for the 50th anniversary of the Kentucky Junior Miss program Jan. 11-12 at the Singletary Center on the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington. Thirty-seven high school senior girls — including Oldham County High School student Caitlin Pike — competed to represent Kentucky at the national competition in Alabama June 26-28. Judges determined the winner based on the highest overall score in the following categories: scholastic, talent, fitness and self-expression.

GOSHEN – Following a successful fall cross country season, several Oldham County runners competed in postseason national competitions.These races included the Footlocker South Regional in November, the AAU and NCCCA National Championships in December. The runners competed for the Derby City Athletic Club, the Liberty Running Club or unattached.Local finishers were led by Goshen Elementary third-grader Logan Otter who won his age group Fun Run at the NCCCA races.

MT. WASHINGTON – A quick burst in the third quarter gave Bullitt East the push it needed as the Chargers downed the South Oldham Dragons 61-50.Bullitt East, 13-3, outscored the Dragons 17-9 in the third period thanks mainly to a mid-quarter 8-0 scoring run.“They had about five possessions in the third quarter where they got three or four layups out of possession and transition and we didn’t answer,” SOHS coach Steve Simpson said.
