  • Oldham students audition for Actor’s Theatre production

    During this year’s auditions for the Actor’s Theatre production of “A Christmas Story,” three Oldham County students made the finals for the part of “Ralphie” out of hundreds of participants.

    Evan Boggs, 10, a student at Centerfield Elementary and Jakob Mutchler, 7,  a stduent at Locust Grove Elementary made it to the top 18 in the semi-final round.

    Seth Dewey, 9, a student at Camden Station Elementary made it to the top 9 final round.

  • Wrecker hits I-71 rock wall, driver killed as vehicles roll into cab

    A Campbellsburg man died in a crash along southbound Interstate 71 Monday morning in Oldham County when the wrecker he operated hit a rock wall. 

    Oldham County Police spokesperson Billy Way said  a flatbed wrecker carrying two passenger cars crashed into the rock wall on I-71 at the 12 mile-marker about 9:15 a.m. Monday.

    The driver of the wrecker, Donald C. Moore, 69, of Campbellsburg,  died in the crash.

    Mr. and Mrs. Herb Haeberlin announce the engagement of their daughter, Susan Lindsey Haeberlin to John Travis Simmons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Simmons.

    The bride-elect is a 2002 graduate of Oldham County High School and is employed as a patient coordinator for Gaddie Eye Center in Louisville. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Overstreet of La Grange.

    The groom-elect is a 2002 graduate of Oldham County High School and is employed by the Oldham County Road Department. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Simmons of La Grange.

  • Man killed as wrecker hits rock wall on I-71 south

    A fatal crash involving a wrecker has southbound lanes of Interstate 71 closed in Oldham County.

    According to police, a flatbed wrecker carrying two passenger cars crashed into the rock wall on I-71 at the 12 milemarker about 9:15 a.m. Monday.

    The driver of the wrecker, a male, died in the crash, but police have not yet identified him.

    Southbound lanes of I-71 are closed at exit 14 in Crestwood. Drivers are forced to exit to Ky. 329 and detour from Ky. 329 to Ky. 22 and to the Gene Snyder Freeway.

  • Westport man faces attempted murder, arson charges after house fire

    A Westport man faces charges attempted murder and arson following a Saturday evening house fire.

    Police responded to a fire in the 6000 block of Washington Street in Westport at 6:23 p.m. Saturday.

    Keith Evridge, 36, is charged with three counts of attempted murder, arson, two counts fourth-degree assault, intimidating someone in a legal process and resisting arrest.

  • Maddox enters U.S. Air Force basic cadet training

    Robert C. Maddox recently entered basic cadet training at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., in preparation to enter the first academic year at the academy.

    The six-week, two-phased orientation program must be successfully completed by the cadets prior to entering their freshman year.  The training prepares men and women to meet the rigorous mental and physical challenges experienced by new cadets.

  • Anniversary announcement

    Woodford and Lucille Hatton of La Grange celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 6.

    They were married in the Salt Lake City temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints on Woodford’s 27th birthday in 1949. Woodford is a retired physical therapist. The couple serves as volunteers in the Louisville temple.

    They are the parents of four children, Jenny (Bob) Mussman, Larry Hatton, Patsy (Mike) Gosnell and Tom (Julianne) Hatton. They have 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

  • All Nations Festival offers music, dancing, demonstrations

    An All-Nations Intertribal Festival will take place Sept. 19 and 20 at Westport Commons in Westport.

    The annual event features Native American music, dancing, food and demonstrations. Demonstrations will start at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 and noon Sept. 20. 

    The Grand Entry will take place at 1 p.m.  

    The cost of admission for adults is $5, for children ages 8 to 14 it is $2.50.  

    Westport Commons is located off Ky. 524, 3 miles from U.S. 42.

  • Fifty years of celebrating Oldham history

    His own life placed him at the fulcrum of history as a fighter pilot in World War II.  But it’s his contributions closer to home that may endear Vince Fanelli to the people of Oldham County for generations to come.

    For those contributions to the preservation of Oldham County history, Fanelli will be honored as a Champion of Oldham County History at the Oldham County Historical Society’s annual gala Sept. 25.

  • Sullivan graduates from Army basic combat training

    U.S. Army National Guard Pfc. Stephanie E. Sullivan recently graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

    During the nine weeks of training, Sullivan studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values amd physical fitness. 

    She received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching and rifle marksmanship.
