  • Crestwood man dies in motorcycle crash

    A Crestwood man died Wednesday evening when he crashed his motorcycle in Shelby County.

    According to police, a 2006 Blue Yamaha Motorcycle traveling east on Aiken Road at 7:50 p.m. left the roadway and struck a roadsign near a curve. 

    The driver, Steven A. Ball, 40, of Crestwood, was pronounced dead at the scene.

  • Parents share concerns at school redistricting forums

    Nearly 100 parents turned out to the third and final school redistricting forum Thursday night at North Oldham High School.

    The trio of forums is the first of three rounds of public meetings Oldham County Schools will hold to discuss a redistricting plan, which will take effect for the 2014-15 school year.

    District officials said decreased enrollment projections and a decision to close Liberty Elementary next year have created a need to redraw student assignment boundaries.

  • Crestwood woman shares Boston experience

    The Oldham Era has heard from friends and family members of several local runners who competed in today's Boston Marathon.

    Kathy Riley, of Crestwood, is in Boston with friends Ashli Collins and Andrea Faulk who ran the race.

    Riley said the two runners crossed the finish line just moments before the blasts rocked the area. Fortunately, both are safe and unharmed.

    Jennifer Jones said via email that her brother-in-law Brian Jones, who also competed, is safe and back at his hotel room.

    As news reports continue of the bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, The Oldham Era has learned several Oldham County residents competed in – and finished – the marathon today.

  • OC Clerk's main office to close for renovations

    Repair work will shut down the Oldham County Clerk's main office next week.

    County Clerk Julie K. Barr said the La Grange office will close April 15-19 for renovations.

    During the week, La Grange staff will shift to satellite offices in Crestwood and Prospect to accommodate increased traffic at those locations.

    The La Grange office will still be open to residents seeking marriage licenses.

  • Prospect City Council fails to elect a mayor

    After failing to elect a mayor, Prospect City Council has petitioned the state attorney general for a change in voting procedures and re-opened the call for candidates.

    In a second special-called meeting Wednesday, the six-member council voted to replace Todd Eberle, who resigned earlier this month. None of the five candidates received the four votes necessary for election.

    Now the council has requested a ruling from Ky. Attorney General Jack Conway to reduce the required number of votes from four to three.

    On the heels of being ranked the healthiest county in the state, an Oldham County study shows residents may not be quite so healthy.

    A community health assessment released this week shows lack of physical activity, poor nutrition and substance abuse are red flags for Oldham County residents.

  • New school board policy clears way for redistricting

    The Oldham County Board of Education has adopted guidelines that pave the way for students to redistrict.

    Oldham County Schools’ officials plan to redistrict students of all ages before the 2014-15 school year.

    The new policy, adopted Monday, states that school attendance boundaries will be drawn based on six factors identified as “desirable” by county residents.

  • ‘Bachelorette’ star publishes zombie self-defense book

    Crestwood business owner and former contestant on “The Bachelorette” Sean Ramey has announced the publication of his newest book, “Defend Yourself (In A Zombie Apocalypse).”

    Ramey, a USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee, owns Kentucky Tae Kwon Do and Fitness Academy in Crestwood.

    The new title is Ramey’s second literary effort in the past three months, coming on the heels of “Defend Yourself (No Experience Necessary).”

  • Oldham County Police offers Citizens’ Academy

    Residents have an opportunity to learn more about the operations of the  Oldham County Police Department.

    OCPD will offer a 10-week Citizens’ Academy starting April 16.
