  • The essentials we need as humans

There are several essentials which we all must possess.  The first one of these is identity.  We want to be known.  We want people to call our names.  We like to see our names in print.  One of our greatest fears is the fear of anonymity.  When people feel that they are nobodies (nobody knows them, nobody cares about them, nobody thinks of them) then defeat becomes very real for that person.

  • Occupational tax on 'honor system'

The much discussed La Grange compensation tax will go into effect on Oct. 1 with the hope of pulling the city out of debt.

  • Elite Feats

On a cool, crispy morning last week, two FBI snipers laid on top of the press box at Oldham County High School’s football field.

Their target was an angry man inside a white truck, parked at the edge of the grounds at the field, who had “kidnapped” a member of Oldham County Schools Junior Guard.

After about five minutes of tracking the man inside his vehicle, the snipers executed the suspect after he put a gun to the student’s head.  A FBI SWAT team then moved in to clear the truck and “rescued” the student.

After a long process triggered by the eventual closing of Liberty Elementary, school officials have narrowed the latest round of redistricting proposals to one each for elementary, middle and high school boundaries.

Oldham County School District officials presented the narrowed down plans to the school board at their monthly meeting on Monday, taking the map drawing out of the district’s hands and into board member’s. The final proposals largely affect the northeast corridor of Oldham County, from Westport to the Henry County line.
