Animal lover Mary Ann Tyler was heartbroken.
When treating fire victim patients at Baptist Hospital Northeast, she met a woman whose family lost not only their entire home, but their three dogs, too.
“It broke my heart,” Tyler said. “I put myself in her place and that would be the worst thing. I just hate to think that they would suffer.”
Tyler, who has two dogs and also feeds four stray cats, learned from paramedics that at least one of the family’s dogs may have survived if rescuers had proper equipment, such as an oxygen mask.
