    Bruce and Sandis Parks of Crestwood announce the engagement of their daughter, Sabrina Kelly Parks to Joshua Kane Underwood of Glasgow, son of Buddy and Anne Grant Underwood of Glasgow.

    The bride-elect is a graduate of Georgetown College. She is employed by Wickliffe Veterinary Pharmacy in Lexington.

    The groom-elect is a graduate of Georgetown College. He is employed at Cook, Downing and Underwood Insurance Agency in Glasgow.

    A fall wedding is planned. Invitations will be mailed.

  • Oldham students named to dean’s list at Georgetown College

    Several local students were recently named to the dean’s list at Georgetown College for the fall semester.

    To be named to the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.7 grade-point average. 

    Those on the dean’s list from Crestwood include Caitlin M. Chilton, daughter of Tim and Regina Chilton; Brittany D. Hawkins, daughter of John and Gayle Hawkins; Samantha R. Owens, daughter of Jeff and Carol Owens; Chelsey A. Reid, daughter of Sheila Reid; and Michelle Ann Dresselhaus, daughter of Mary and Terry Dresselhaus. 

  • Holy Trinity Lutheran Church hosts voters assembly

    Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host a voters’ assembly at both the 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday. Main items of business include the acceptance or rejection of the revitalization program and the election of a treasurer.

  • Girl Scout troops host father/daughter dance

    Girl Scout Troops 197 and 300 are hosting the 14th annual father/daughter Valentine’s Day dance from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Camden Station Elementary School.ee

    Admission is $10 per couple and includes snacks, patch, crafts, a photo of the couple and dancing.ee

    Corsages can be purchased at the event for $5.ee No registration is required.

  • Newspaper teams to sponsor ‘Oldham Icon’ contest for local singers

     Whether you’ve written an original song like “Pants on the Ground” or plan to perform a familiar tune like “My Heart Will Go On,” a new contest aims to identify Oldham County’s crop of vocal talent.  

    Auditions for Oldham Icon – a singing talent show – are 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Oldham County Schools Arts Center in Crestwood. 

    Advance registration and a $10 fee is required. Space is limited.

  • Second Street crossing gates will be installed soon

    Gates will soon be in place and in working order at the Second Street railroad crossing in La Grange. 

    Mayor Elsie Carter said Monday that crews from CSX will be in the city this week working on finishing the gate installation. She said the gates should be working later this week.

    City officials chose to install gates on Second Street to prevent the city from losing it’s quiet zone or having to close the street.

  • County joins effort to manage scrap tires

    Oldham officials passed a resolution Tuesday to support the state’s Waste Tire Trust Fund.

    According to the resolution, four million scrap tires are generated annually in Kentucky and the fund gives counties the opportunity to manage those tires.

    Solid Waste Coordinator Linda Fountain said of the four million generated, only about two million are collected for removal. Many are often discarded along roadways and in streams.

  • Hospital announces Medical Staff officers

    Dr. Andrew Rochet, MD, emergency medicine, has been elected medical staff president for 2010 at Baptist Hospital Northeast.

    Rochet is a 1998 graduate of Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at University of Louisville Hospital in 2001.
