  • Lady Colonels’ comeback slips away in Tuesday loss

    BUCKNER – Oldham County crawled up from a deep valley Tuesday against Walton-Verona. The only problem was that once the Lady Colonels reached the top of the hill, they slipped and fell right back down.

    Playing its first game in nearly two weeks, OC came back from a 16-point deficit Tuesday to take a fourth quarter lead, only to see the Bearcats regain control and win 65-58.

  • Raise a Glass: Voters approve alcohol at Yew Dell

    It will be easier for patrons of a popular Crestwood event center to consume alcohol, thanks to the results of a special election.

    The election, held Tuesday at the South Oldham Fire Station on Old La Grange road, will now allow Yew Dell Botanical Gardens to sell alcohol by the drink during events. The change was passed by an 87 percent margin.

    Yew Dell is host to many business events and weddings year-round, but previously could only make alcohol available by hiring a licensed caterer to provide it.

    LOUISVILLE – North Oldham’s swimmers were county kings and queens of the pool again Friday night.

  • Lady Dragons pummel North

    GOSHEN – South Oldham made quick work of its crosstown rival Monday night.

    The Lady Dragons raced out to a 23-2 lead after the first quarter and a 42-6 halftime advantage on their way to a 69-28 win on the Lady Mustangs’ homecourt.

  • Oldham County names Shatzer next football coach

    Two and a half months after Oldham County football coach Matt Brown resigned, the school has named his replacement.

    Mike Shatzer was announced as the Colonels’ new head coach Tuesday afternoon in a videoconference with the players and coaching staff.

    Shatzer comes to Buckner after a year at Park Crossing High School in Montgomery, Ala., where he taught history and helped start a football program at the school, which opened last fall.

    More snow hit early Saturday morning and it hit Saturday’s county basketball schedule hard.

    All county basketball games scheduled for Jan. 25 have been either canceled or postponed.

    The affected games include:

    Fern Creek at North Oldham

    Oldham County at Henry County

    South Oldham at Christian Academy-Louisville

    Girls

    Collins at Oldham County (won't be made up)

    North Oldham at Dixie Heights (won't be made up)

  • Dragon Invitational canceled

    An expected winter storm has already wiped out a traditional county sporting event.

    Saturday's South Oldham High School Dragon Invitational wrestling event has been canceled, South athletics director Mitchell Irvin announced Friday morning.

    "Unfortunately, with the incoming overnight winter storm tonight with a prediction of 1-3 inches and Blizzard conditions from 3 a.m. until 10 a.m. tomorrow we are going to CANCEL the 2014 SOHS Dragon Invitational Tournament scheduled for Saturday, January 25," Irvin wrote in an email.
