  • County renews contract with trash service

    Oldham officials renewed a five-year contract Monday with Industrial Disposal.  

    The renewal begins Feb. 1 with a new rate. 

    Under the new contract, ID customers will pay $13.50 per month, which includes two roll carts. 

    Under the current contract, customers are paying $12.73 per month and 80 cents per rental per cart. 

    Oldham County Solid Waste Coordinator Linda Fountain said the new rate is a reduction of 3 cents for households with one cart, and 83 cents for households with two. 

  • MERCY seminar takes place Saturday

    The Marriage Education and Resource Center will offer a workshop called “How to Talk So Others Will Listen,” from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Baptist Hospital Northeast.

  • Preschoolers collect donations for Heifer International project

    Preschoolers at Prospect Latin School have recently been participating in a service-learning project for Heifer International, a charitable organization working with impoverished families worldwide.

    Using donations for training, livestock and agriculture, The Heifer Project has helped more than 10.5 million families become self-reliant.

    Each preschool class will choose an animal from the Heifer International catalogue – examples include goats, pigs, chicks, lambs, rabbits – to purchase for a family. Students will earn money for the project by helping at home.

  • Boy Scout troop will host 75th reunion

    Boy Scouts of America  Troop 109 of Prospect will host a 75th reunion for all scouts, former scouts, leaders and others who have been involved over its 75 years.

  • ‘How It’s Made’ by an OCHS grad

    An Oldham County High School grad will soon appear on of his favorite TV shows.

    Matt Jamie, a 1998 OCHS graduate and Louisville resident, owns of Bourbon Barrel Foods LLC in Louisville – a company he founded as the only micro-brewer of soy sauce in the country. A crew from Discovery Channel’s “How It’s Made” recently filmed the company’s production process. 

    Jamie’s publicist pitched the idea to the show last winter, but they never expected they’d have the chance to appear on the show. 

  • Hettinger completes U.S. Marines basic training

    Ryan Fenley Hettinger recently completed basic training at the U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C. 

    Hettinger completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.

    He was meritoriously promoted to private first class prior to graduation. 

    After graduation from Parris Island, he will be stationed at Camp Geiger for four weeks of combat training. He will begin additional training at Camp LeJeune in aviation supply and accounting. 

  • Blessing graduates from basic training

    U.S. Air Force Airman Adrielle M. Blessing recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

    She completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

    She is the daughter of Billie Simmons of Taylorsville and Karen Hardy of La Grange.

    She is a 2009 graduate of Spencer County High School in Taylorsville.

  • Local business, non-profit organization collect donations for those in need

    Children battling cancer at the Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville  and their families face even tougher times as they spend this holiday season away from home.  

    To spread the holiday cheer, Dr. Kathy J. Pansegrau of 360 Degree Chiropractic and local non-profit Meghan’s Mountain Charitable Foundation Inc. have teamed up to collect gift cards for these families through Dec. 11.  

    Pansegrau will donate a 20-minute chair massage for gifts valued at $25 or greater and her office is one of the official drop-offs for donations.

  • There’s a new warden in town

    The state’s largest prison and the county’s second-largest employer has a new warden. 

    Cookie Crews has been promoted to warden of Kentucky State Reformatory in La Grange.

    Kentucky Department of Corrections Commissioner LaDonna Thompson announced the promotion Monday. 

    Crews has now served as warden at four prisons in the state. Most recently, she served as warden at the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women.
