  • Western Kentucky University honor society inducts new members

    Western Kentucky University’s chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta inducted 24 new members Nov. 9.

    Inductees include Rachel Kelly of La Grange.

    Alpha Epsilon Delta is the National Health Preprofessional Honor Society dedicated to the encouragement and recognition of excellence in preprofessional health scholarship, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary and others.

     

  • American Red Cross blood drive is Dec. 9

    An American Red Cross blood drive will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange.

    Question and answer session with magistrates is Dec. 11

    Tri-County Community Action Agency is hosting an event for seniors age 60 and older to meet and  ask questions of Oldham County magistrates at 10 a.m. Dec. 11.

    The event will take place in the recreation room of the Oldham County Senior Life Enrichment Center.

  • Westport Fire Department Board will meet Wednesday

    Westport Fire Department will host their monthly board meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at the new firehouse at 6301 Third St. Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month. Call 222-7078 for information. The public is welcome to attend.

  • Prospect farmer wins Kentucky Forage Spokesperson contest

    Caldwell Willig of Rivercrest Farm in Prospect recently won the Kentucky Forage Spokesperson contest.

    Willig and his business partner Danny Jacobs have made many improvements on the farm in recent years, including implementation of a rotational grazing system and the use of warm season grasses and grazing type alfalfa. Caldwell’s contest presentation included an overview of the grazing system, plus highlighted their beef, egg and now broiler sales.

  • Southern States hosts annual meeting

    Southern States Cooperative will review its operations at a series of local annual meetings, including the upcoming meeting for members of Southern States Cooperative Inc. – Kentuckiana Service,  Henry County and La Grange branches.

    Southern States will host its annual membership meeting Tuesday at 112 S. First St. in La Grange. Membership activities begin at noon and the business meeting begins at 1 p.m.

  • Light Up La Grange scheduled Friday

    An old-fashioned holiday extravaganza is scheduled Friday as residents celebrate Light Up La Grange. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. on Courthouse Square in La Grange. 

    Santa Claus and Mayor Elsie Carter will arrive by carriage and kickoff the festivities by lighting up the town. Activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, carolers, dancing, musical entertainment, shopping and dining.

    Several local roadways will be closed in order for the City of La Grange and local merchants to host the event. 

  • McGuire graduates from basic training

    U.S. Air Force Airman Lance M. McGuire recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas.

    He completed an intensive, eight-week program of training in military discipline and studies, USAF  core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

    McGuire is the son of Sean and Holly McGuire of La Grange. He is a 2007 graudate of Trinity High School in Louisville.

  • Court hears bids for cleaning crew

    The bids include cleaning  the Administrative Office of the Courts’ building and the Oldham County Fiscal Court building. Both are one-year contracts.

    The contract for the AOC building went to Modern Maintenance for $43,000, which is paid by AOC. The cost is up from last year because the crews needed additional manpower to clean the building.

  • Holiday bazaar planned at Locust Grove

     Locust Grove Elementary will host a holiday bazaar from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at the school. 

    The event includes holiday gifts, candles, jewelry and crafts. The Santa Shop for kids will be open and Krispy Kreme doughnuts will be sold.
