  • Oldham County among top performing child support contractors

    The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services has announced the state’s 20 top-performing child support contracting officials and one that made significant improvement during the past year.

    The winners were announced earlier this month in Louisville at the Child Support Conference, which was sponsored by the CHFS Child Support Enforcement Program.

    The CSE, part of the CHFS Department for Income Support, administers child support enforcement jointly with local contracting officials for all 120 counties.

  • Honoring his legacy

    With the Oldham County Career Center making big changes in its approaches to teaching and curriculum, associate principal Matt Watkins saw it fitting that the name of the school be changed as well. 

    In a letter to the Oldham County Board of Education earlier this year, Watkins proposed that the center be renamed The Arvin Center in honor of former Superintendent Robert “Bob” Arvin. 

  • Shop local this season

     Ready or not, the holidays are upon us. Everywhere you look there is a flurry of activity to “get ready” for them. 

    For many, “get ready” means, shopping, cooking, cleaning and more shopping. All this activity creates a great amount of stress and a certain dread. 

    Personally, I dread the thought of crowds, traffic, rude people and in some cases, near fights over parking spaces or that last item on the shelf. 

  • Grace Baptist Church hosts live nativity

    Grace Baptist Church will host a live nativity on the church grounds Friday and from 6 to 9 p.m. nightly Dec. 14 to 18.

  • Western Kentucky University honor society inducts new members

    Western Kentucky University’s chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta inducted 24 new members Nov. 9.

    Inductees include Rachel Kelly of La Grange.

    Alpha Epsilon Delta is the National Health Preprofessional Honor Society dedicated to the encouragement and recognition of excellence in preprofessional health scholarship, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary and others.

     

  • American Red Cross blood drive is Dec. 9

    An American Red Cross blood drive will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange.

    Question and answer session with magistrates is Dec. 11

    Tri-County Community Action Agency is hosting an event for seniors age 60 and older to meet and  ask questions of Oldham County magistrates at 10 a.m. Dec. 11.

    The event will take place in the recreation room of the Oldham County Senior Life Enrichment Center.

  • Westport Fire Department Board will meet Wednesday

    Westport Fire Department will host their monthly board meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at the new firehouse at 6301 Third St. Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month. Call 222-7078 for information. The public is welcome to attend.

  • Prospect farmer wins Kentucky Forage Spokesperson contest

    Caldwell Willig of Rivercrest Farm in Prospect recently won the Kentucky Forage Spokesperson contest.

    Willig and his business partner Danny Jacobs have made many improvements on the farm in recent years, including implementation of a rotational grazing system and the use of warm season grasses and grazing type alfalfa. Caldwell’s contest presentation included an overview of the grazing system, plus highlighted their beef, egg and now broiler sales.

  • Southern States hosts annual meeting

    Southern States Cooperative will review its operations at a series of local annual meetings, including the upcoming meeting for members of Southern States Cooperative Inc. – Kentuckiana Service,  Henry County and La Grange branches.

    Southern States will host its annual membership meeting Tuesday at 112 S. First St. in La Grange. Membership activities begin at noon and the business meeting begins at 1 p.m.
