  • Strong winds, heavy rain expected today

    The first day of Spring Break for Oldham County students could be marked by severe weather.

    The National Weather Service has warned that strong winds and heavy rain are likely today and tonight.

    A strong low pressure system will move across the Great Lakes today dragging a cold front through Oldham and surrounding counties. Ahead of this cold front, a moist and moderately unstable airmass will move into the region combined with strong winds.

  • Charlotte Reeder's 100 mile race for Spirit

    Charlotte Reeder, Chair of the Oldham County YMCA Spirit campaign, peddled diligently for over five hours Wednesday on a stationary bike at the Buckner YMCA. Charlotte's efforts were matched and supported by other riders that spun the hours away with Charlotte to raise money and awareness for Spirit.

  • Two vehicle accident in La Grange

    A two vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Grange Rd. and Hwy 53 in La Grange at approximately 4:45 p.m. Monday afternoon. Witnesses at the scene reported a woman driving a silver Oldsmobile ran a red light and was hit on the passenger side of the car sending the car into a spin and popping it up and over the curb of Hwy 53.
    The car was hit by a full-size Chevy truck that was turning onto Hwy 53 as the light turned green. Neither driver was seriously injured.

  • Paying it back- one step at a time

    Despite a chilly spring morning the streets of La Grange were filled with the feet of over 150 walkers as part of La Grange Elementary’s annual walkathon Saturday. This year’s walkathon was held to raise money for the La Grange Elementary library expansion and the YMCA Spirit campaign.

    Many Oldham County residents are unaware that last year's Kentucky Derby winner, Super Saver, was conditioned at Highpointe Training Center in La Grange during his two-year-old season.

  • Lake gets new fishing dock

    BUCKNER – Fishermen have a  better chance of landing the big one in the Wendell Moore Park Lake thanks to a new fishing dock.
    The dock,  which stretches 50-feet out into the lake, ends a 30-foot wide T and allows improved access to the water on the 20 plus acre lake. The lake has limited access along a sometimes steep shoreline and since half the lake is not available due to the shoreline being on the grounds of the Kentucky State Reformatory.

    They are the arm and the bat that just may carry the Oldham County High School baseball team over the hump to a regional baseball championship this season.
    Seniors Ryan Lakin and Wade Mason have both been selected to the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches’ Association preseason all-state team after strong junior seasons that saw them lead the Colonels to a 21-12 record and regional semifinals last year.
