  • Duo indicted on charges of theft, exploitation

    An Oldham County grand jury indicted two people in November on several counts of theft by deception and exploitation.

  • Smith completes Marine Corps basic training

    Jeffrey D. Smith recently completed basic training at the U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.

    He completed a 12-week course of intense training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both mentally and physically. He is stationed at Camp Geiger, N.C. for four weeks of combat training. His field of expertise will be in ground ordinance electrical calibration, requiring an additional eight months of training beginning in January.

    He is the son of Stephen and Rebecca Smith of Centerfield and a 2009 graduate of Oldham County High School.

  • Local student takes part in Transy’s Crimson Christmas event

    North Oldham High School graduate and Transylvania University sophomore Stephanie Townsend is one of 91 students who recently participated in Transylvania’s 18th annual Crimson Christmas philanthropic event.

  • Chimney fire damages Kentucky Acres Home

    Fire officials are encouraging residents to have their chimneys inspected after the South Oldham Fire Department spent Saturday evening battling chimney fires.

    Members of SOFD headed to 3014 Boones Trace in Kentucky Acres subdivision at 7:44 p.m. Saturday on the report of a chimney fire.

    Just 35 minutes earlier, firefighters had extinguished a chimney fire at 7607 Beechdale Road in Crestwood.

  • Two Oldham County RE/MAX offices consolidate

    Real estate offices in La Grange and Crestwood will consolidate Friday. 

    RE/MAX Real Estate Center–Crestwood will consolidate with RE/MAX FourSquare Realty in La Grange to become the county’s only RE/MAX franchised office.   

    Tom and Gale Cox purchased the franchise rights to RE/MAX Real Estate Center from Lee Clore and Bob Jones.  Clore and Jones will continue their involvement in land development.

  • History Center receives $5,000 gift from Robins Foundation

    The Oldham County History Society recently received a $5,000 gift to help preserve records at the Oldham County History Center. 

    Plans are underway to renovate an unused area in the Chilton Barnett Archives and Library building on the museum campus. 

    The planned renovated area will help reorganize the collections and store rare documents in double fireproof vaults with powder dry sprinkler systems. The new plan will also allow for a larger storage area.

  • Stolworthy will travel to Ecuador

    Erin Stolworthy, daughter of Juneve and Richard Stolworthy of La Grange will travel to Cuenca, Ecuador Dec. 31 to spend 10 weeks volunteering in orphanages. 

    Stolworthy graduated in 2008 from Oldham County High School and attends Brigham Young University in Utah.

    Stolworthy will travel with other volunteers through Orphanage Support Services Organization,  a nonprofit charitable organization that sends volunteers on a regular basis to help in local orphanages in both Cuenca and Quito Ecuador, two of the country’s largest cities. 

  • O christmas tree

    A family tradition spanning more than 50 years is now revived, thanks to a newly-planted tree.

    In the early 1940s, Lucy Ricketts’ great-grandfather planted a tree in front of what is now  Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home in La Grange. From that Christmas on, every year her family decorated the tree for the holidays. 

    When her father sold the family business and building – McCarty-Ricketts Funeral Home – to Heady-Radcliffe in 1990, it is the last year the family decorated that tree. 

  • Oldham grand jury indicts 25

    An Oldham County grand jury recently handed up the following indictments:

    • Robin W. Langdon, 39, is indicted for second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and first-degree persistent felony offense.

    According to the indictment, on Nov. 10, he allegedly distributed, sold or possessed with intent to distribute or sell hydrocodone.
