  • Oldham County girls roll past North Oldham 77-38

    It took a little while for the Oldham County Lady Colonels to get started Wednesday night but once they did, there was no looking back as they trounced rival North Oldham 77-38 to move into second place in the 29th district.

    Through the first six minutes of the game though, North Oldham, not OC, looked to be the team with all the momentum, grinding out to a quick 13-7 lead behind tough interior play from forward Taylor Moore.

  • WEEKLY ROUNDUP: Select basketball games from the week:

    BOYS’ BASKETBALL
    NORTH OLDHAM 61, SHELBY COUNTY 38
    David Levitch scored 20 points and Trevor Burton added 10 as North Oldham cruised past Shelby County for their 10th win of the season.
    A 23-5 run in the third quarter was the difference for North, who never looked back from there.
    The Mustangs return to the court at 7:30 p.m. Saturday as they host Henry County.
    North has already beaten the Wildcats this season, winning 66-38 Dec. 28.

  • OCHS wrestler ranked No. 23 nationally

    A strong showing in a stacked Dragon Invitational field isn’t the only thing going John Skirkey’s way as the wrestling season begins to wind down.
    In addition to a top 5 ranking in his weight class on the state level, the Oldham County sophomore now has another honor to add to his resume, checking in at No. 23 nationally in the 126-pound weight class in a poll released by Wrestling USA magazine.
    Shirkey is a key member of the Oldham County wrestling squad, currently ranked No. 6 in the state of Kentucky.

  • Dreaming of state: local dance and cheer squads compete in regional competitions for a shot at state

    With a season’s worth of work under their belt, five local dance and cheerleading squads took to the floor in regional competition Jan. 19 in hopes of securing a spot in their respective state tournaments.
    The cheerleaders, competing at Shelby County High School, saw two county teams walk away winners as the South Oldham girls captured the top spot in the large division and North Oldham earned a win in the super large division.
    The top two teams earn invites to the state tournament Saturday at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.

  • Oldham Co. finishes 5th at Dragon Invitational

    With a who’s who of Kentucky wrestling powerhouses traveling to Crestwood — including 12 of the state’s top 20 teams — the Oldham County Colonels managed a fifth-place finish at the Dragon Invitational Jan. 19.
    North Oldham finished in  21st, while South shared a two-way tie for 26th with DeSales.
    For as strong as the field was, the individual matchups didn’t get much easier as six of the state’s top ranked wrestlers managed the trip to Oldham County.

  • South Oldham girls clinch 29th district regular season crown

    Entering the 2012-13 season, the South Oldham girls’ basketball team faced plenty of unknowns. With a new coach on the sidelines and the top seven scorers from last season’s team squad missing, the Lady Dragons were in for a tough challenge. Now, nearly three months later, it’s safe to say they’ve navigated it with grace, clinching the No. 1 seed in the 29th district tournament Jan. 16 with a 59-35 win over rival North Oldham.

  • Residents: Sewage stinks in Oldham Woods

    Something stinks in Oldham Woods — and everyone knows what it is but nobody knows what to do about it.

    Residents of the subdivision, located off Old Sligo Road, rely on a private treatment pond to process wastewater from about 107 homes, which includes some from the Turtle Creek development as well.

    And it’s “stinkin’ yet again,” says resident Laura Smith. “This has been a recurring problem for three years now.”

  • Yes, even school lunch – there’s an app for that

    In a technology driven world, Oldham County Nutrition Services is keeping pace and also leading the charge.

    The nutrition program is the first school nutrition program in Kentucky to launch its own mobile menu app. Leigh Anne Peterson, assistant director of nutrition services, said the free app is a new way to communicate with students and parents.
