Whether it be on the pool walls, in the lobby hall of fame — which showcases a number of great swimmers ­— or in the waters of the pool itself, IUPUI’s Natatorium in Indianapolis exudes an aura of championship swimming.
That certainly made the Shelby Sharks, a Shelbyville based swim team with plenty of Oldham County flavor, feel right at home as they took to the water at the Carmel Invite.

Plans for volunteers to spray and swipe South Oldham Middle School surfaces with disinfectant on Saturday, Feb. 2 are canceled.

An army of parent volunteers planned to attack student desks, lockers, door handles and other surfaces at SOMS with disinfectant spray and Clorox wipes to decrease spread of the flu and other viruses.

SOMS parent Daryl Baer coordinated efforts to rid the school of germs.

"We do our best to stay on top of it in our homes," Baer said, "but our kids are the school more hours than at home."

With Tuesday night’s district showdown between rivals South and North Oldham looming, the Dragons took to the court a little early Jan. 29, ending the school day with a blacklight themed pep rally to prepare students for one of the most important games of the season ­— a rivalry game that was the deciding factor for the 29th district race.
In addition to recognizing many winter athletes, the rally pitted students against their peers and the faculty members in a series of challenges, including a dance-off.

Nearly 10 months after closing the 2011-12 with a loss in the regional final, the South Oldham Lady Dragons took the first step Monday in a return appearance, sweeping their district schedule with a 56-39 win over Trimble County.
It certainly didn’t take long for them to assert themselves as a 17-3 push in the games’ opening minutes was enough to give South all the momentum needed for the rest of the game.
