  • South Oldham wins district on buzzer-beater: Abbey Van Zant nails baseline shot as clock expires

    Heading into the fourth quarter of Friday night’s 29th District final, South Oldham was on its last legs.
    After trailing rival Oldham County from the tip, the Lady Dragons needed a big stand in the final frame to stand a chance.
    And that’s exactly what they got, capping a furious 15-7 rally over the game’s final minutes with a baseline buzzer-beater from sophomore Abbey Van Zant to claim the school’s fifth straight district championship.

  • Colonels cruise in regional opener: Junior Austin Wills scores 19 points

    The Oldham County Colonels came into Monday night’s game against Grant County as the 29th District champion.
    When the dust settled, they were one step closer to the regional championship after walloping the Braves 61-44 with overbearing defense and excellent rebounding in the first round of the region tournament.

  • DOWN GOES COLLINS!: South Oldham stuns Eighth Region’s No. 1 ranked team

    If South Oldham was supposed to feel intimidated by a first-round matchup with Collins High School, someone forgot to pass that along to the Dragons Tuesday night as they ended the Titans’ season in dramatic fashion, rallying for a thrilling 85-82 overtime win.
    “All we heard was how horrible a draw this was for us, that’d we have to play the best team in the region first,” senior Matt Haysley said. “But you know what, it was a bad draw for them.”
    Early on, it certainly looked like it as South Oldham came out of gates in a flurry.

  • Oldham County moves on: Lady Colonels roll past Gallatin County 58-37 in regional opener

    Less than a week removed from a disappointing loss in the final of the district tournament, Oldham County looked like a totally different team in its regional opener against Gallatin County Thursday night, blitzing the Lady Wildcats 58-37.
    Though sloppy ball handling continued to plague Oldham County, they were able to overcome 20 turnovers with a strong presence on the boards and plenty of contributors.

  • South Oldham girls fall to Collins: Foul trouble, mental lapses doom Lady Dragons in Eighth Region opener

    The whistles blew early and often in the first game of the girls’ Eighth Region tournament Wednesday night as the South Oldham Lady Dragons sent Collins to the free throw line 31 times in a heartbreaking 44-43 loss.
    South Oldham had a slightly tougher time drawing fouls, attempting only 15, six free throws fewer than Collins made.

  • South Oldham coach earns Coach of the Year honors

    After leading her team to a season unlike any other, South Oldham swim coach Christine O’Rourke was honored Feb. 8 as the Region 2 Coach of the Year.
    Fittingly, she was doing what she does best — coaching — when the award was announced. In fact, she was so caught up in preparing one of her swimmers for competition, she almost missed the announcement all-together.

  • Prospect escapee attends court two days later with cuffs up his sleeve

    A drunk driver who fled into a wooded area while under arrest in Jefferson County resurfaced two days later for a domestic violence hearing in Oldham district court with handcuffs still attached to his wrist.

    According to police, Bradley R. Scherzinger, 29, was speeding Feb. 16 when a Prospect Police officer stopped him on U.S. 42. His blood-alcohol content registered .165, and the officer placed him under arrest.

  • UPDATE: Milton-Madison Bridge will be reduced to one lane Feb. 28

    The Milton-Madison Bridge, which carries US 421 across the Ohio River from Milton to Madison will be reduced to one lane on Thursday, February 28 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. 

    Engineers from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will be monitoring items on the bridge that were highlighted in previous inspections.

    The Cabinet implemented a monthly inspection frequency in 2012 to review these locations.  The goal is to keep the Milton-Madison Bridge operational during the super-structure replacement project.

  • Oldham County girls knock off North Oldham

    It wasn't pretty win but Oldham County coach Jace Bryant will certainly take it as his Lady Colonels advanced out of the first round of the 29th district tournament Tuesday night with a 59-53 victory over Trimble County.

    Center Jenna Kirk was a big reason for that , providing a big boost for the Lady Colonels after Trimble County game-planned to limit Ashley McMurtrey with a box and 1, scoring 11 of the first 16 points.

  • OC boys ends North’s season in the district tournament

    In a rematch between two county rivals Oldham County and North Oldham in the first round of the district tournament, the Colonels finally got their revenge, defeating North 57-40. The 17 point victory punched the Colonel’s ticket into the district tournament final and more importantly the region tournament.
