  • SOHS student wins Casey award

    Sydney M. Allen, a student at South Oldham High School has won the National Merit James E. Casey Scholarship. Allen’s probable career field is undecided.

    The James E. Casey Scholarship is given by the UPS Foundation.

    The UPS Foundation was created in 1951 by United Parcel Service. National Merit James E. Casey Scholarships and James E. Casey Scholarships for children of United Parcel Service employees are supported by the UPS Foundation, in honor of the founder of United Parcel Service.

  • A Happy Deal

    La Grange Elementary students expressed their appreciation recently to La Grange McDonald’s restaurant owner George Saliba who partnered with the school to promote monthly McTeacher Nights. The school received 10 percent of those sales, enough to purchase a new Dell computer and monitor. The school’s final McTeacher Night for the year is Tuesday, May 13.   • Ross Ruffra Scholarship

    Mr. and Mrs. David Ruffra, parents of the late Ross Ruffra, are pleased to announce the winners of this year’s recipients of the “Ross Ruffra Memorial Scholarship.” At the time of his death Ross was a scholar and athlete at South Oldham High School. This scholarship is designed to recognize the ideals Ross stood for. This year’s recipients are Davis Ferriell and Sky Lanham.

    Ms. Gay Parrish of Crestwood is pleased to announce the engagement of her son, Cory Parrish, also the son of the late William Parrish, to Danielle Doane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Doane of New Castle.

    The future groom is an elevator technician with Oracle Elevator. The bride to be graduated from the University of Kentucky and is employed at the Rawlings Company. A May wedding is planned. Invitations have been sent.

The groom-to-be is a graduate of North Posey High School and Indiana University. The two will wed in a private ceremony in Goshen.

    Operation Parent

    Operation: PARENT is offering a workshop titled, Four ‘Must-Have’ Conversations for Middleschoolers on Tuesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. This unique session led by Jean Schumm, founder of Operation: PARENT, and Mary Beth Uberti, Director of Program Development for Operation: PARENT, will focus on four areas of conversation for parents of middleschoolers, including the developing teen brain, drugs and alcohol, dating and determination.
