  • OCHS librarian named 2015 PBS Digital Innovator

    Oldham County High School librarian James Allen has been named a 2015 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator.  Allen, who also serves as technology coordinator at the school in Buckner, Kentucky is among a diverse group of 100 tech-savvy educators from across the country selected for his passion and commitment to innovative teaching practices that integrate digital media and technology in the classroom.

  • Oldham County Middle students involved in bus fire

     A tour bus carrying 50 Oldham County Middle School students returning from an eighth grade trip caught fire in Pennsylvania early last Thursday morning.
    No injuries were reported, according to Director of Communications and Development of Oldham County Schools Tracy Harris Green.
     The Toby Tours bus driver smelled smoke at around 6 a.m. on Thursday morning and pulled the bus over and the 50 kids and five adults were taken to a rest station by local emergency workers in the Claysville, Penn. area.

    April 24 -- Juan A. Zacarias, 20, La Grange, was arrested on warrants for indecent exposure 2nd degree, alcohol intoxication in public place, 1st and 2nd offense, no operator’s license, fail to wear seat belts.

  • ROUNDING THE BASES: Straker steals home for Dragons in 3-2 win over North

    CRESTWOOD - North Oldham and South Oldham are building a reputation of close contests. Despite getting 10 hits, the Mustangs struggled to bring them home in a 3-2 loss at South Wednesday night.

    South took advantage of three errors from North to win even with just two hits. Nathan Straker took the lead for good by stealing home with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

    La Grange honor student

    Thomas Hagan was among McKendree University’s outstanding students introduced at an Honors Convocation on April 23 during the university’s Academic Excellence Celebration. Hagan, a graduate student from La Grange, was recognized for nursing education by the Division of Nursing’s master’s program. Graduate and undergraduate honorees were selected by full-time faculty members based on four major components of the university’s mission: responsible citizenship, engagement, academic excellence and lifelong learning.

      A tour bus carrying 50 Oldham County Middle School students returning from an eighth grade trip caught fire in Pennsylvania early last Thursday morning.

    Grin and Bear It 5K

    On Saturday, May 16. Luther Luckett Correctional Complex in La Grange will host its annual Grin and Bear It 5K Run/Walk. Proceeds benefit the institution’s unique Bears Behind Bars program in which inmates make teddy bears that are given at no cost to local and state first responders. They in turn give them to children affected by crises such as house fires, automobile accidents, domestic violence situations, etc.
