    La Grange Police
    Douglas G. Coxe, 62, of Ashtabula, Ohio was arrested on June 3 for alcohol intoxication in a public place 1st & 2nd offense.

    Roger D. Smallwood, 61, of Hyden was arrested on June 3 for alcohol intoxication in a public public place 1st and 2nd offense.

    Andrew M. Mitchell 19,  of Prospect was arrested on June 5 for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol 1st offense, possession of  marijuana, drug paraphernalia.

  • Gatton Academy students participate in various summer programs, internships

    The summer months bring a change of pace for students and recent graduates of The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky. Students are beginning summer projects that span from their Kentucky backyards to internships across the nation and travels around the world.
    The school’s annual summer internship program kicked off in November as students began looking for and applying to programs ranging from job shadowing placements to prestigious summer internships.

  • Local students enrolled in Governor’s School for the Arts

    This summer, The Kentucky Center will host over two hundred eager young artists from every region of the Commonwealth, as The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) takes place at Danville’s Centre College from June 21 to July 11.
    As one of the nation’s leading liberal arts colleges that strives to create a nurturing environment where creative young people have transformative experiences, Centre College is excited to host GSA again for the second year on its campus.

    Adkisson graduates
    Seven hundred eighteen students graduated from Union University May 16 during spring commencement services of the 190th graduating class at Oman Arena.
    Among them was Michael Adkisson of Prospect, who earned a BS in Business Administration, Psychology.


    Steve Gaines, pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tennessee, and a Union alumnus, delivered the commencement address, challenging graduates to devote themselves to prayer, to the power of God’s Spirit and to the proclamation of the gospel.



  • Teachers honored

    Oldham County Schools and the Oldham County Education Association recently honored this year’s Teachers of the Year and Torch Award recipients. Torch Awards are presented by OCEA to outstanding volunteers, who, like teachers of the year, are selected by the individual schools.
    Superintendent Dr. Will Wells commended the teachers and volunteers for their efforts across the district.

  • La Grange welcomes new business

    A new business, Changes, is now open in La Grange in the Clore and Duncan Building.
    Owners Marilyn Droddy and Joyce Ball feature fresh and silk flowers, art works, gifts and delivery.
    Marilyn has owned two other flower shops in Trimble County and Joyce is very talented in painting acrylics and oils.
    Changes is open Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • La Grange native A Fulbright Scholar

    University of North Georgia (UNG) students, Jacob Dietrich, formerly of La Grange, and Erika Evans, have been selected for the prestigious Fulbright program, for which recipients are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields.

    I was a teenager in the 1970s when three amazing horses won the Triple Crown.  Over the last 37 years I have learned not to expect a horse that has won two of the three jewels of the Triple Crown to capture the elusive Belmont Stakes.  This has happened 13 times since Affirmed won the last Triple Crown in 1978.  
    I was enjoying the race this year with my wife and teenage daughter.  As American Pharoah pulled away from the field in dramatic fashion she exclaimed, “Wow, this is the first Triple Crown winner ever in my life.”
