  • Local Ironman will lead to road closings in Oldham

    The annual Ironman Louisville triathlon will be held this Sunday, Aug. 25. That means Oldham County residents can expect some heavy delays if trying to travel on several roads in the county.

    As in years past, the main portion of the 112-mile bike ride will go through Oldham County which leads to the closing of many roads.

  • KSP checkpoints

    The Kentucky State Police will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints in the counties of Oldham, Trimble, Henry, Owen, Carroll and Gallatin during the period of August 26, 2013 – September 9, 2013.

     The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide for high visibility public safety service, focusing on vehicular equipment deficiencies, confirming appropriate registration of vehicles and the licensing of drivers.  Violations of law or other public safety issues that arise shall be addressed in accordance with Kentucky traffic and regulatory laws.

    Property owners in the North Oldham Fire Protection District might soon enjoy a discount on their insurance rates, thanks to a revised ISO rating.

    ISO (Insurance Services Office) is a nation-wide subscription service that most insurance companies  use for establishing premiums for fire insurance based all or in part on the “Property Protection Class” (PPC) rating.  A PPC of “1” is the best you can get and a PPC of “10“ would typically be assigned to areas without any fire protection at all.

  • Passing the cash

    WAVE 3’s own Dawne Gee was in La Grange Monday for the channel’s Pass the Cash give away.

    For those not familiar with the giveaway, Gee takes $300 with her and asks locals for help giving the money away to someone who really needs it. The only rule is that he or she can’t be a relative.

    Shannon Pottie, owner of a local restaurant in La Grange, saw Gee and her sign and instantly thought of one of her employees.

  • Shiloh church sponsors seminar on state's Elder Law

    The Shilo United Methodist Church will be hosting a informational meeting for senior citizens or anyone who cares for one.

    Kentucky Elder Law will be giving a practical presentation on the complexities of legal information for seniors. The law office specializes in clearly explaining the legal process of Medicare and Medicaid as well as wills, guardianships and nursing homes.

    The meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Shilo Methodist Church located in Goshen.

  • Comprehensive plan takes step forward

    The comprehensive plan is making the rounds of the various local governments on its way to passage.

    Despite receiving approval from the planning and zoning committee in May, the plan must now receive approval from the city councils of La Grange, Pewee Valley and Crestwood – and Fiscal Court – before it becomes official.

    The plan cleared the first hurdle Aug. 5, when Pewee Valley approved the plan during their monthly meeting.

  • Ordinance oversight

    An oversight by La Grange Mayor Bill Lammlein has cost the city more than $12,000.

    An ordinance passed by city council to increase employee contributions to the city’s health insurance plan was to go into effect in September 2012.

    But the change was never implemented.

    City employees continue to pay 5 percent of the cost of their insurance, rather than the 10 percent that was supposed to be taken from their pay starting in the fall.
