  • Combs is new field rep for Congressman Davis

    McKenzie Combs has replaced Christina Poole as the field representative for Congressman Geoff Davis. Poole recently moved to San Antonio.

    Combs is a resident of La Grange and a graduate of Western Kentucky University.

  • The Era welcomes general manager from Florida

    The Oldham Era is welcoming a new staff member this week. 

    Clarissa Williams has been named general manager effective Aug. 5.  

    Williams most recently served as publisher of the News-Sun in Sebring, Fla. She has served as the advertising and circulation director at the Richmond Register in Richmond and as publisher at the Register-News in Mt. Vernon, Ill. She has 13 years of newspaper experience in a variety of roles.

  • Here comes that rainy day feeling again

    It’s another rainy day at the Oldham County Aquatics Center and lifeguards are starting to get slap-happy. The song “My Girl” blares from the PA system.

    “I’ve got sunshine... on a cloudy day,” one lifeguard sings. 

    She’s one of the six that remain at noon Tuesday after a full crew showed up to work. 

    The staff drew names to see who would have to go home on this rainy day like so many others so far this summer.

    Cody A. Mattingly, 21, Roederer Correctional Complex, arrested by OCSO July 26, indictment warrant for two counts theft by unlawful taking over $300, fraudulent use of a credit card, theft by unlawful taking under $300 and second-degree persistent felony offender.

  • Divorce attorney charged with keeping client’s $1,000 payment to spouse

     An Oldham County attorney faces charges after she allegedly failed to make a payment from one client to another in a divorce case.

    Juliette House, 46, of La Grange , is charged with forgery, tampering with physical evidence and public records and theft.

    A couple who hired House during divorce proceedings allege House didn’t deliver a payment from one spouse to the other. 

    According to district court records, the man gave House $2,700 to deliver to his then-wife. 

  • An extra set of hands

    Fifteen-month-old Chabrin Duvall whirls around his living room, showing off his toys, dancing to the music on TV, grabbing at his daddy’s face. 

    With bright brown eyes and a glowing smile, he has every trait of a healthy, happy baby.

    Across the county, the equally bright-eyed 10-month-old Phoenix Phelps crawls around, exploring everything within reach — scratching on the upholstery, playing peek-a-boo with a curtain, pulling himself onto his feet with the help of furniture. He plays contentedly on his own, periodically turning around to look at his mom.

    Richard L. Johnson, 55, 4714 Grand Dell Drive, Crestwood, arrested by OCPDJune 22, speeding 14 mph over limit, DUI, failure to maintain required insurance. 

    Alexander E. Smith, 22, 1809 Wildbriar Court, La Grange, arrested by OCPD June 20, reckless driving, DUI, license to be in possession, failure to produce insurance card. 

  • Fair ends early

    Strong storms caused the Oldham County Fair to shut down early, forgoing the biggest night of the week.

    After a crowd of a couple thousand Friday night, fair board members were hoping for a gate of about $30,000 for Saturday night with the draw of motocross competition. But the forecast said otherwise, board member Rae Anne Roley said. They were able to hold the talent contest Saturday afternoon in qualification for the state fair.

    The loss of income could be devastating to the fair, Roley said.

  • Man pleads not guilty to shooting girlfriend with pistol

    A La Grange man who allegedly shot his girlfriend with a pistol in February has entered a not guilty plea. 

    Jason Cornett, 38, faces an assault charge after police say he shot his 22-year-old girlfriend, Ashley Frankrone. According to the police report, Cornett shot Frankrone in her side while he was handling two single-action revolvers in his home.  

    Frankrone received medical treatment at Baptist Hospital Northeast just after the shooting. Emergency crews later moved her to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
