  • Dynamic Duo: Oldham Countians of the Year

    They may not be “life-long residents” of Oldham County, but many agree Duane and Anne Murner have already put a lifetime’s worth of effort into the community.

    The Murners jointly received the Oldham Countian of the Year award Monday night.

    The award is presented annually by Oldham Chamber and Economic Development and is a surprise to the recipient.

    And surprised they were.

  • Morning fire destroys Westport home

    A Westport couple is planning to rebuild after a fire destroyed the upstairs of their home Sunday.

    Kenneth and Kathryn Freeman had returned home from church when they discovered the fire, according to Westport Volunteer Fire Department Chief David Pendleton.

    Kenneth ran into the house and rescued their dog while a neighbor called 9-11, Pendleton said.

  • School district dominates K-PREP test

    Oldham County Schools is the highest-ranked county district in the state, according to accountability measures released Friday.

    The district is ranked in the top 4 percent of public school districts across the state under the new “Unbridled Learning” model, part of the biggest change to Kentucky education in more than two decades.

  • Goshen shooter claims self-defense

    A Goshen man who claims he shot his brother-in-law in self-defense last month will face a grand jury for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

    Police charged Emmitt Pendleton, 50, following an Oct. 15 shooting at Pendleton’s home in the 5200 block of U.S. 42. Pendleton admitted to both shooting his brother-in-law, Richard Hild, and to being a convicted felon.

  • Drunk driver sued by wife of Westport motorcyclist

    The family of a Westport man who died after a motorcycle collision on Ky. 53 has filed a civil suit against the drunk driver who caused the crash and two businesses he visited just hours before. 

    Charley Klosterman, 65, died nine weeks after a head-on collision with a Chevy Malibu tossed him from his motorcycle onto the shoulder of Ky. 53.

  • S. Oldham student scalded by coffee

    A South Oldham High School student was hospitalized Friday after another student threw hot coffee on him — and both students are being charged by police and being disciplined by the district.

    Steve Hood Jr., 18, suffered burns to his neck and was taken by Oldham County EMS to a local hospital. 

    According to police, Hood was released from the hospital the same day.

    The other student is a juvenile.

  • ELECTION 2012: Oldham County results

    With a nearly 69 percent voter turnout in Oldham County, polls remained busy throughout Election Day Nov. 6. When the votes were tallied, all four school board incumbents retained their seats and Courtney Baxter earned the Commonwealth's Attorney role. Baxter is the first female to hold the position in the 12th Judicial District, which includes Oldham, Henry and Trimble Counties.

  • New assessment results rank Oldham County School district seventh in state

    After the biggest change in state assessment in almost 30 years, the first round of Unbridled Learning scores are being released state-wide today.

    Oldham County is the highest-ranked county district in the state and the seventh-highest ranked overall. The top six schools are all independent districts.

    The new accountability system awards recognition levels based on percentiles.

    As a district, Oldham County is one of just two county districts in the state's nine Districts of Distinction, the highest recognition level.

  • 10 horses perish in early morning barn fire

    Ten Thoroughbred horses died in a barn fire in L'Espirit early Monday morning, according to La Grange Fire Department officials.

    The department responded to a call at 3:40 a.m. to Park Shore Road and found the barn fully engulfed in flames.

    A neighbor called 911 after realizing the barn was on fire. 

    The horse owners were leasing the land; there is no home on the property.
