‘Buckner Mall’ razed to make room for turn lane at Ky. 393

Demolition began on Monday of the five white buildings along Ky. 146 at the intersection of Ky. 393 in Buckner, known as Buckner Mall.
As he watched the buildings crumble Monday morning, Judge-Executive David Voegele said demolition is a sight he’s waited to see for five years.

Official accused of leaving city hall with conference table

The City of La Grange continues its battle with former mayor Elsie Carter.

The latest development involves failure of Carter and her attorney to answer the city’s complaint from May 27.

City attorney Steve Emery said at the last hearing Carter and her representation were given 20 days to respond to the city’s amended complaint.

Luallen challenges Oldham residents to watch their pennies

State Auditor Crit Luallen was the guest speaker at the Oldham Chamber & Economic Development quarterly dinner Tuesday night at the Glen Oaks Country Club.
Members gathered to elect new board members, honor high school students that participated in the Oldham County Chamber Leadership Co-op, as well as to celebrate the graduates of the 2011 Leadership Oldham County class.

Oldham County Schools contests $30K in storm water fees

Officials from Oldham County Schools are awaiting an attorney general's opinion on the constitutionality of paying storm water management fees from school funds.

If constitutionality is upheld, Oldham County Schools will be ordered to pay in excess of $30,000 in fees for the 2010 fiscal year.

A bigger jail could bring big bucks for the county

Sometimes a blackout is needed to highlight a potentially dangerous situation, such as the Oldham County Jail losing power last week during the bad thunderstorms that shook southern Indiana and Metro Louisville.
Even though a generator should have kicked in so that the jail maintained power, it failed to operate for a short time.

Goshen home to be torn down amid insurance battle

A vacant, boarded up structure that used to be a home on Harmony Landing Road in Goshen will soon be demolished after a decision by Oldham County Fiscal Court.
Homeowners Shane and Lira Armstrong have been locked in a lawsuit with their insurance company since their home burned in February 2010, and the lengthy legal process has prompted safety concerns in the community.

Just in time to grace midsummer wedding invitations, the U.S. Postal Service will issue a Garden of Love stamp on Monday from a scenic Crestwood location known for lush gardens and picturesque celebrations.
The Garden of Love includes 10 different first-class stamps depicting a colorful mosaic of flora and fauna in a garden setting.
