  • Planning officials criticized for open records violations

    Two rulings for open records law violations by county government were released in early November.

    Oldham County resident Judy Ponder filed the open records appeals with the Office of the Attorney General in September.

    Ponder asserted the county engineer and planning and development office both failed to fulfill records requests.

    State law requires public agencies to determine within three business days if an open records request will be granted. If denied, the agency is required to send notification of why.

  • County buys guardrail for state road

    Oldham County magistrates were visibly surprised when they learned the judge-executive spent nearly $10,000 in county funds to install a guardrail on a state road.

    And the guardrail doesn’t meet state specifications, according Andrea Clifford, spokesperson for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

  • Officials question sewer service to new Brownsboro school

    There’s a new stink about the proposed Brownsboro school as officials debate who should provide sewer service to the property.

    Members of Oldham County Fiscal Court will now decide whether to extend its interlocal agreement to provide sewer service to the Brownsboro school campus.

    If the court decides not to provide sewer lines to the school, Crestwood Mayor Dennis Deibel said he’s prepared to annex the area into city limits and provide sewer service.

  • Second floor of EMS building still closed

    When Oldham County EMS veteran EJ Mike fell on the stairs at the Crestwood substation nearly six weeks ago, he continued to work because he “enjoys helping people.”

    Besides, he said, he helped start OCEMS more than 20 years ago as one of three founders.

    Now, though, Mike has to take time off. Despite physical therapy three times a week since the incident, the injuries to his hand and wrist haven’t healed.

  • Oldham County Schools drop $8.6 million in reserve

    Oldham County Schools are in a slightly improved financial position compared to this time last year, though difficult economic times may be ahead, said Chuck Littrell, the district’s chief financial officer.

    The board of education closed the 2010-11 fiscal year with an unreserved balance of $8,641,908, or 7.72 percent of actual receipts.

  • Zoning violations could lead to closure of wildlife rehab center

    A $25,000 grant for a Goshen area non-profit has led to zoning violations and a heated campaign by neighboring property owners for the founder to discontinue her program.
    Second Chances Wildlife Center is a 501c3 organization headquartered off U.S. 42 near St. Francis School that provides rehabilitation and safe release to injured and orphaned wildlife.
