    Local students named to dean’s list at Morehead

    Several students from Oldham County were named to the dean’s list at Morehead State University for the fall semester.

    Dean’s list students include Samantha Boone, Jacquelyn Finch, Tina Ward and Jordan Wuthrich from La Grange and Jennifer Fannin and William Fergason from Crestwood.

    To be named to the dean’s list at MSU, students must earn a 3.5 grade-point average.

  • 2009 Pyramid Awards

    The Pyramid Awards are teacher grants sponsored annually by the Oldham County Educational Foundation.

    For 2009, OCEF distributed $15,437.24 to fund 16 projects at 10 schools.

  • Peters selected as principal of Goshen Elementary School

    Members of Goshen Elementary School’s site-based decision-making council recently selected Lisa Peters as the school’s new principal.

    Peters has accepted the position effective July 1.

  • Local students compete in district governor’s cup

    Academic team members from all Oldham County middle schools and St. Aloysius recently competed at South Oldham Middle School during the district Governor’s Cup competition, an event sponsored by the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition.

    The Governor’s Cup features eight events, including future problem solving, quick recall, written composition, and five subject-area written assessment tests. 

  • Life lesson

    As part of their senior project, a group of North Oldham High School students recently hosted a two-day simulation of a fatal drunk-driving accident.

    Caitlin Hagan, Jacob Grady and Olivia Cleary worked together on a project that brought in several local agencies to show other students the results an accident due to drinking and driving can cause. On the first day of the simulation, students witnessed police and rescuers at the scene of a mock DUI crash. Senior Allison Olive portrayed a student fatally injured in the crash.

  • Graduation dates announced

    School board members approved graduation dates Monday for the Class of 2010.

    Ceremonies for Buckner Alternative High School graduates are planned at 7 p.m. June 4 at the Oldham County Schools Arts Center in Crestwood.

    Other graduation ceremonies are planned the following day at Freedom Hall in Louisville.

    Graduation ceremonies for North Oldham students begin at 11 a.m.; South Oldham ceremonies begin at 2:30 p.m.; and ceremonies for Oldham County high school students begin at 6 p.m. June 5.

  • 2010-11 calendar approved

    Oldham County students will start the 2010-11 school year Aug. 11.

    Members of the board of education approved the 2010-11 calendar Monday, which includes fall break Oct. 18-22; winter break from Dec. 20-31; spring break April 4-8, 2011; and May 24, 2011 as the last day of school. The calendar also retains all six early release days for students.
