    Jessica Minto of Goshen was recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Minto was initiated at Duquesne University.

  • North Oldham teacher wins award

     Her students say her history lessons seem a lot like English lessons, but she can't help intertwining her love of history, literacy and teaching.

    North Oldham High School teacher Meredith Grace was chosen as this year’s WHAS11 LG&E ExCEL Award winner for her dedication to her students and her ability to reach them all.

     Boone inducted into honor society

    The Western Kentucky University chapter of the Omicron Delta Epsilon International Honor Society for Economics inducted 25 students March 21, including Ryan S. Boone of Crestwood. 

    These inductees join college students in 681 chapters across the world in recognition of scholastic achievement in the discipline of economics.

  • Gatton Academy selects students

     The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky has selected 100 Kentucky sophomores for the Class of 2018, including three from Oldham County: Alicia Edds of Oldham County High School, daughter of Nathan and Melissa Edds from La Grange; Emily Guernsey of Sacred Heart Academy, daughter of Jeff and Susan Guernsey from Prospect; and Noemi Leibman of North Oldham High School, daughter of Maria Margulis and Alexander Leibman from Prospect.

  • Schools compete in culinary contest

     Three teams representing high schools and educational centers from across Kentucky met in Louisville on March 12 for the first annual Kentucky ProStart Competition, hosted by the Kentucky Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (KRAEF).

     SFS performs Greek comedy

    The National Youth Arts award-winning St. Francis Drama Project proudly presents “The Birds.” 

    This ancient Greek comedy written by Aristophanes features beaks, feathers, comedy, classical and modern music, clueless gods and even a little romance. Show times are Friday, March 25, Tuesday, March 29, and Wednesday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m., and a Saturday, March 26, 2 p.m. matinee.

  • Oldham County Students study in China

    A group of 12 students from The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky, inlcuding Logan Parker and Alex Banaszak, both juniors from Oldham County High School, and Aaron Kirtland, a junior from South Oldham High School, traveled to China during WKU’s spring break to study its changing energy policy, as well as the country’s architectural development.

    Rhodes dean’s list

    Anchorage resident Anna C. Fowler was named to the Rhodes College dean’s list for the 2015 fall semester. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must be enrolled in at least 16 credit hours of  academic work and must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.70 or better.

    Fowler is a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy.

  • Science Olympiad teams advance to state

    Students from NOMS and NOHS competed in the Science Olympiad Regional Competition this weekend, with several students heading to the state competition.

    The NOHS Science Olympiad team will advance to state after placing 8th in the Science Olympiad Regional Competition on Saturday.

    • Greg McDonald and Nolan Ruggles placed first in Air Trajectory.

  • Area high schools to compete at 2016 FIRST robotics competition

    The Local Engineers of Tomorrow Team 2783 inspires thousands of kids in Kentucky to pursue involvement with STEM-related activities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through their summer camps, participation in worldwide tournaments and by mentoring other teams. The team is comprised of local high school students from Bullitt, Oldham, Henry, Shelby and Jefferson counties. On March 10 through 12 they will kick off their season with the 2016 FIRST Saint Louis Missouri Regional Competition at the Chaifetz Arena.
