Administrators for Oldham County Schools are working to minimize impact on students as they formulate a tight budget.
School board treasurer Chuck Littrell said a 1 percent increase in funds allocated to schools by state legislature during each of the next two years is the least he can remember. He said the increase is usually about 2.5 percent per year.
The University of Kentucky has recently recognized 112 students from Oldham County who were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester.
To make a dean’s list in one of UK’s colleges, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes. Some UK colleges require a 3.5 GPA to make the dean’s list.
The North Oldham High School Speech Team closed the 2007-08 season by competing in the Kentucky High School Speech League State Tournament March 14-15 at Western Kentucky University.
Speech coach Rosemary Cundiff-Brown, who founded the team when NOHS opened its doors five years ago, said she was impressed with the talent on this year’s team and was also pleased with the dedication of the students.

The Oldham County High School Symphonic Band will represent Kentucky in concert performance in the Heritage Festivals concert band festival in Boston next weekend.
Seventy-two band members and 16 adult chaperones will depart on April 30 and travel overnight to Boston, with an intermediate stop in New York City.
