  • Atkin named to honor roll at University of Oklahoma

    Andrea Atkin of La Grange was named to the honor roll at the University of Oklahoma Norman campus for the fall semester.

    Students must earn a 3.5 grade-point average to be named to the honor roll. 

  • Toombs named to dean’s list, president’s list at EKU

    Brittany Toombs of La Grange was recently named to the dean’s list and the president’s list at Eastern Kentucky University. To be named to the dean’s list, students must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher and a 4.0 GPA for the president’s list.

    Toombs also received the dean’s award for students who are on the dean’s list for three semesters. She received the dean’s award pin.

    Toombs is the daughter of Gary and Mindy Toombs and the granddaughter of June St. Clair.

  • Newman named National Merit Finalist

    Kathleen Newman, a senior at North Oldham High School, was recently named a National Merit Finalist.ee 

    She is the 16th NOHS senior in school history to earn this distinction.

     

  • Stephenson named to dean’s list at Georgetown College

    Jennifer M. Stephenson of La Grange was named to the dean’s list at Georgetown College for the fall semester.

    To be named to the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.7 grade-point average.

     

  • With Honors

    Students from Oldham County High School recently performed in two university honors band clinics. Several students participated in the University of Louisville honors bands Jan. 22 and 23, working under the direction of Fredrick Speck. The honors bands presented a concert on the evening of January 23 in Comstock Hall at UofL.

  • Local students named to dean’s list at Transylvania University

    Gregory Finch of Crestwood and David Akers of Pewee Valley were recently named to the dean’s list at Transylvania University.

    Finch, a junior, is a graduate of Oldham County High School and is studying sociology. He is the son of John and Cecilia Finch.

    Akers, a senior, is a graduate of South Oldham High School and is studying mathematics and psychology. He is the son of Carol Akers.

    To be named to the dean’s list at Transylvania, students must earn a 3.5 grade-point average.ee

  • First-graders at St. Francis School deliver donations

    Representatives from the first-grade classes at St. Francis School in Goshen recently delivered three carloads of toys, clothing, diapers, books and art supplies to Wayside Christian Mission’s Child Development Center, which provides daycare services for up to 50 homeless children age five and younger in the community.

    The project began in September with a visit from Wayside representatives. 

    After the presentation, the students began a three-month program to earn money and collect items that could be used by the center. 

  • Kopper named to dean’s list at Baldwin-Wallace College

    Emily Kopper of Prospect was named to the dean’s list at Baldwin-Wallace College for the fall semester.

    Students must earn a 3.5 grade-point average or higher to be named to the dean’s list.

  • Smialek named to dean’s list at University of Kentucky

    Jenna Rae Smialek of Pewee Valley was named to the dean’s list at the University of Kentucky for the fall semester. 

    Students named to the dean’s list at UK must earn a 3.5 grade-point average or higher.

    Smialek is a 2005 graduate of South Oldham High School. She is the daughter of Paula Cash and Kurt Smialek.

  • A way with words

    North Oldham Middle School hosted a poetry slam competition for sixth-graders Feb. 2. Students wrote poems and performed their work with each classroom electing a winner. Those seven finalists were part of the Poetry Slam in the school gymnasium. A slam is the competitive art of performance poetry placing focus on not just the writing itself but also on the performance of the words.
