  • Dancing with the stars

    The Oldham County Schools Arts Center will play host to the the Lavelle Smith Jazz and Hip Hop camp Aug. 3-7.

    The camp is high energy and intensive, in which students will get to work with the internationally renowned choreographer Lavelle Smith.  

    Smith is a MTV award-winning choreographer who has worked with Beyonce Knowles, the Rolling Stones, the late Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.

  • Beyke graduates from Murray State University

    Andrew M. Beyke of Crestwood recently graduated from Murray State University. 

    He earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training. Beyke is the son of Jeff and Julie Beyke.

     

  • Atkin awarded Robert Byrd honors scholarship

    Andrea Atkin was recently awarded a $1,500 Robert C. Byrd honors scholarship to help pay for her college education.

    Atkin, a 2009 graduate of Oldham County High School, will attend the University of Oklahoma to study business and political science.

    While at OCHS, Atkin was a member of the National Honor Society, speech team, Student YMCA, Service Club, track team, academic team, Beta Club, Sigma Sigma Delta and drama.

    She is the daughter of Robert and Ann Atkin of La Grange. 

     

  • Team goes to international competition

    Two North Oldham Middle School teams and a Harmony Elementary School team recently competed at the Odyssey of the Mind  International Competition at the University of Iowa in Ames.  

    Teams have been preparing for this competition for seven months. The path to achieve this opportunity is rigorous:  teams had to place in the top four at the regional competition, and place first or second for their grade division and problem category at the state competition.  

  • Two Oldham students named to dean’s list at Bellarmine

    Kelly Dietrich and Loretta Jerdan of La Grange were named to the dean’s list at Bellarmine University for the spring semester.

    To be named to the dean’s list at Bellarmine, students must earn a 3.5 grade-point average.

     

  • Kulengowski earns Farm Bureau Scholarship

    Brandon Kulengowski, a graduate of Oldham County High School, is the recipient of a $1,000 Oldham County Farm Bureau Scholarship. 

    The grant is one of 66 college scholarships worth $99,300 awarded this year by the Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation to deserving students from Kentucky.

    Recipients were judged on a variety of issues such as academic excellence, extra curricular activities, leadership abilities and financial need.

  • Berry named to dean’s list at Drury University

    Derek Berry of Crestwood was recently named to the dean’s list at Drury University.  

    To be named to the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.6 grade-point average. 

  • Two from Oldham graduate from Morehead State

    Two local students recently graduated from Morehead State University. 

    Ryan Hudson and Marcus Hundle, both of  La Grange, earned bachelor’s degrees from the university.

  • Oldham students named to president’s list at EKU

    For the spring semester, more than 700 Eastern Kentucky University students were named to the president’s list. Among those on the president’s list were students from Oldham County: Maranatha Schulte of La Grange, a junior studying general studies in arts and sciences; Jonathan Sherry of La Grange, a senior studying history; and Stephanie Lynch of La Grange, a junior studying biology.

    To be named to the president’s list at EKU, students must earn a 4.0 grade-point average.

     

  • Local students graduate from Centre College

    Several local students recently earned bachelor’s degrees from Centre College in Danville. 

    Erin Menard earned a bachelor’s degree in design and culture, and graduated magna cum laude. She also earned the Female Athlete of the Year award.

    Menard is the daughter of Tim and Lisa Menard of Crestwood and a graduate of Oldham County High School.

    Jimmy Dan Theiss earned degrees in government and history.  He  is the son of James and Nancy Theiss of La Grange and is a graduate of Oldham County High School.
