    Visiting North Oldham High School’s AP biology and anatomy students was a nostalgic experience for world-renowned surgeon Dr. Laman Gray.

    “I first became interested in the medical field in my high school biology class,” he told the group. “That was some 50 years ago for me, and there are a lot more opportunities available now.”

    Oldham County Middle School’s gifted and talented program visited Waverly Hills Sanatorium on Sept. 15. They got the chance to tour the old haunted tuberculosis hospital, and learned more about the ghost hauntings.

    Local student awarded pre-medical scholarship

    Caitlin Mullen, a senior at the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences, studying biology, recently earned the Kash Senior Pre-Medical Scholarship.

    Mullen is the daughter of Patricia Mullen and Daryle Mullen of La Grange. She plans to graduate from UK in May.

  • Liberty School eighth grade and high school graduates meet for banquet

    There are only a few high school graduates left from the old Liberty School in Goshen, and they still meet annually for dinner.

    Several years ago they decided to start including eighth-grade graduates, and then it turned into an event for any former Liberty School students, their friends and families.

    On Oct. 4, graduates from 1936 and later came to what is now Liberty Elementary to visit with old friends.

    The penny I chose showed the year 1931. I was disappointed. I was sure it was an important year, but I was homesick for the 21st century. I was tempted to buy another penny from Chloe’s jar, but I’d saved some money and wanted to keep it. So, we decided to spend some time in 1931.

    Needing employment, Chloe and I walked to Mobley’s Mercantile.

    SOHS offering ACT Prep

    South Oldham High School is offering an ACT Prep class, open to all students, for the Dec. 13 ACT test date.

    The class costs $150 and includes eight 90-minute strategy sessions, two practice tests, and a practice book, but not the cost of registering for the test itself.
