Earlier this year, East Oldham Middle School eighth-grader Sean Dunn submitted a poem to a contest held for young poets. His poem was selected from thousands of entries as one of the top ten in his grade division. 

The Top of the World

With a giant ear to ear smile across my face I go higher

The higher I go the more I need to get to the top

Looking down I can see my dad looking up at me standing on the grass

I don’t know if I can make it the branches keep getting smaller,

Several Locust Grove Elementary School students were recently named MegaSkill Students of the Month. The students were honored for demonstrating the skill “Focus” during November.

Early primary students honored were Mike Wallace, Lucas Hawkins, Sydney Chitwood, Dylan Bayer, Julia Welborn, Will Mettling, Blake Wainer, Sam Young, Lenny Applegate, Olivia Cseh, Yatziry Lopez, Madelyn Wilhite, Lauren Turner, Analise Edwards, Alandra Carroll, Krystabelle Cooley, Ella Shaffer, Windy Fusner, Krista Cox, Cassidy Steele and Grace Downs. 

Ryan Barnett of La Grange was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring and summer quarters at Sullivan University.

Barnett is studying public safety and criminal justice at Sullivan.

Students at St. Aloysius School in Pewee Valley contributed  their loose change Oct. 23-Oct. 29 to buy pies for Kentucky Harvest for holiday meals for the homeless. The PTO sponsored "dough for donuts" The class that raised the most money during that time period received a donut party.  About $1,015 was collected in five days by the students - enough to buy 101 pies from Market Day.
