  • Two fraudulent enrollment cases heard in court

    Two parents charged with falsifying student enrollment appeared before a judge Wednesday afternoon.

    Charles Lauron, 51, waived his right to a pre-trial hearing and Judge Diana Wheeler ruled to pass his case on to a grand jury on Dec. 1.

    Lauron is charged with owing the school district just over $26,000 after enrolling his son in Oldham County schools for eight years despite living in Lyndon.

  • Attempted robbery at Buckner Thornton's

    Police are still searching for the suspect in an attempted robbery Oct. 26 in Buckner.

    Just before midnight, an unknown white male entered the Thortons convenience store and approached the counter, where he displayed a handgun and demanded money and cigarettes.

  • Man charged with sex abuse

    A Louisville man pleaded not guilty Monday to numerous counts of sodomy, rape and sexual abuse.

    Denver Hawkins, 55, is accused of abusing a female family member who was under 12 years old when the abuse began.

  • Several cats poisoned in La Grange

    Most of the residents at La Grange’s Anchor Avenue apartments like the cats that live around the buildings — but at least one person doesn’t.

    Six cats have died from what Oldham County Animal Control believes is antifreeze poisoning, and director Barbara Rosenman said she suspects there may be more casualties.

  • Man strips in La Grange hair salon, suspected in underwear theft

    After stripping down to a women's bra and underwear and fondling himself in the La Grange Fantastic Sams hair salon, an unidentified man escaped on foot Monday. 

    According to La Grange Police Chief Kevin Collett, the man entered the salon at 7:15 p.m. He sat down in the waiting area briefly before standing up and removing his shirt and shorts.

  • Maryland police arrest Oldham father

    A 2-year-old child was returned to Oldham County after the child’s father violated a court order and fled to Maryland with the child.

    Brett Ward Jr., who lives near La Grange, was supposed to return the child to its mother on Sunday. 

    After La Grange Police were alerted that the child was not back, Chief Kevin Collett said Ward “stalled for quite some time” about his location.

  • PTA mom pleads guilty to theft, but won't serve time in jail

    A Liberty Elementary volunteer charged with theft of $13,300 from the school PTA won't serve jail time unless she violates probation.

    Melanie Winkle, 39, 2701 N. Ky. 53, La Grange, faced theft and forgery charges for checks she wrote from the PTA account while serving as treasurer.

    Winkle forged the PTA president's signature.

    Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Berry Baxter said Winkle has made restitution with the PTA.

  • Farm manager shot on L’Esprit Parkway

    Police are investigating a shooting at a horse farm on L’Esprit Parkway in Henry County.

    Kentucky State Police received a 911 call Sunday alerting officers that the farm’s manager, Gregorio Figueroa Calderon, 29, had been shot.

    Calderon was transported to University Hospital in Louisville for life-threatening injuries.

    Local police continue the search for copper crooks as thefts continue, approaching at least 30 incidents in Oldham County since Aug. 1.

    “It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack,” said Detective Chris Morris.
