  • False enrollment charges continue for Lyndon dad

    A grand jury indicted one parent charged with falsely enrolling his son in Oldham County Schools last month.

    Charles Lauron, 51, is charged with owing the school district about $26,000 after enrolling his son in Oldham County Schools for eight years, despite living in Lyndon.

    Lauron’s co-defendant, Donna Claggett, has been cleared of any wrong-doing.

  • Lexington prostitution ring had Oldham County clients

    Four Lexington residents were indicted March 2 for recruiting and enticing women from other states to come to Kentucky so they could solicit them for prostitution.

    A Lexington grand jury returned the indictment charging Marco Antonio Flores-Benitez, 38; Roxana Serna-Olea, 36; Adrian Lezama-Ruiz, 26; and Roberto Salinas-Rivera, 35, with persuading, inducing, and enticing an individual to travel in interstate commerce to engage in prostitution.

  • Officials crack down on Opana

    Law enforcement officials are cracking down on Opana, a potentially lethal pain killer becoming increasingly popular in Kentucky.

    Opana is a brand name for oxymorphone and is twice as strong as OxyContin.

    La Grange Police Chief Kevin Collett said he is seeing the problem in Oldham County, too. 

    He said it seemed like overnight the focus switched from OxyContin and methamphetamine to Opana.

  • Jogger discovers body in Pewee cemetery

    Police responded to the Pewee Valley Cemetery before dawn Feb. 22 after a jogger discovered a woman's body. 

    Oldham County Police spokesman Mike Head confirmed the woman, 56-year-old Teresa Gaither of Pewee Valley, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

  • Sergeant faces sexual abuse charge at Pewee Valley prison

    An officer charged with sexual abuse of inmates at the Pewee Valley women’s prison will soon appear in court.

    James Johnson, a correctional officer with the Kentucky Correctional Institutional for Women in Pewee Valley, is charged with sexual abuse and trafficking prescription drugs last summer.

    He appeared in Shelby County circuit court recently.

  • Crestwood doctor’s trial postponed

    A jury trial for the Crestwood doctor accused of sexually assaulting a patient has been postponed.

    Police arrested Dr. Ashok Alur, 57, in September 2010 for allegedly assaulting a female patient during a gynecological exam. He is charged with first-degree sodomy.

    Alur told police he was “tempted and distracted” during the incident, according to the police report.

  • These are your neighbors on drugs

    The statewide fight against prescription drugs hit close to home on Monday. 

    Just days after Attorney General Jack Conway spoke to North Oldham High School students about the dangers of prescription drugs, police raided a La Grange home suspected of trafficking.

    La Grange Police Chief Kevin Collett said the number of prescription drug-related crimes has dramatically increased in the past five years.

  • Police searching for third suspect after drug raid yields two arrests

    Police raided a house Monday in La Grange and made two arrests on drug charges. 

    The raid follows a joint investigation by La Grange Police, Oldham County Police, the Oldham County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. 

    Information investigators obtained about narcotics trafficking kept leading to a house on Monroe Street, said La Grange Police Chief Kevin Collett.

    Police found two people in the house, but did not locate the a third resident, Ronnell Trice.

  • La Grange teen found dead at friend's house

    Police are investigating the death of a La Grange teenager this weekend.

    La Grange Police Chief Kevin Collett said a 16-year-old La Grange girl died Sunday while sleeping at a friend's house.

    Emergency crews were called to a home at 502 Monroe St. in La Grange on Sunday morning after a resident found Summer Leigh Williams unresponsive and not breathing.

    A coroner pronounced Williams dead at the scene. Police are awaiting a medical examiner's report to determine the cause of death.

  • Woman on probation for double-fatal DUI crash arrested again

    An Oldham County woman responsible for a drunk-driving crash that killed two friends in 2006 could serve up to 10 years in prison after police arrested her recently outside a liquor store.

    Rebecca A. Johnson, 27, of Crestwood, is charged with public intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of synthetic marijuana.

    Sheriff's deputies arrested Johnson about 4 p.m. Jan. 16 in the parking lot of a Carroll County liquor store.
