  • Judge rejects plan for Village of Brownsboro

    A heated battle that caused rifts in the Brownsboro community is over — for now.

    A special-appointed judge ruled against proposed incorporation of the Village of Brownsboro Sept. 27, just hours after hearing the case in Jefferson circuit court.

    In his ruling, Senior Judge Martin McDonald ruled against the petition to incorporate for what he called “four independently sufficient reasons.”

  • Oldham police officer arrested for 'graphic, sexual' communication with teen

    An Oldham County Police officer has resigned amid allegations of sending graphic, sexual text messages to a teenage girl he met during a traffic stop.
    According to OCPD, Harry S. “Shane” Mosley resigned from his duties pending an administrative and criminal investigation. Police arrested him on Friday.
    Mosley, 36, of Pendleton, is charged with unlawful transaction with a minor, official misconduct and unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activity.

  • Man, 23, charged with murder for motorcycle crash

    A Louisville man who was allegedly drunk when he fled from police and crashed into a motorcycle this summer is now charged with murder.

    Nicholas W. "Nick" Snoddy appeared in Oldham circuit court on Friday shortly after a grand jury returned an indictment charging him with 10 crimes, including murder, DUI, wanton endangerment.

    According to court documents, an Oldham County police officer witnessed Snoddy, 23, speeding on June 13. The officer attempted to stop him on U.S. 42 near La Grange.

  • Pendleton man indicted for rape, sodomy of juvenile

    Troopers from Kentucky State Police Post 5 have arrested a Henry County man after he was indicted on charges of rape, sodomy and sexual abuse.

    Dwayne Whitman, 54, of Pendleton, was arrested by Tpr. Barrett Brewer at 12:53 a.m. on Aug. 20 at 502 Brownsboro Road in Sulphur, Ky.

    Whitman was indicted by the Henry County grand jury Aug. 9.

    The indictment came after an investigation by KSP Det. Tim Moore found that Whitman allegedly raped, sodomized and sexually abused a juvenile over a period of six months.

  • Woman to serve 20 years for newborn's death in prison restroom

    A Corbin woman is sentenced to serve 20 years for the death of a baby girl that she suffocated after giving birth in the visitors’ restroom of a La Grange prison in 2010.

    Ashley Cox, 22, admitted to concealing the birth of a 6-pound, 5-ounce healthy baby girl on March 7, 2010, while visiting her then-boyfriend at Roederer Correctional Complex in La Grange.

  • Teens vandalize school, will pay

    Four teens face criminal charges after a short-lived spree earlier this month. 

    According to La Grange Police Chief Kevin Collett, the teens broke several business and vehicle windows, including a large plate glass window at SKC Architects on Parker Avenue. 

    The teens then broke a window at La Grange Elementary, causing a computer to fall to the ground.

  • Crestwood charged with arson, wanton endangerment after fire, standoff

    More than just candles were on fire at a Lake Louisvilla birthday party Sunday evening.

    As a child's fifth birthday celebration wrapped up on Glenwood Drive, neighbor James W. Crawford Jr., 51, threw accelerant onto the house's siding and caught it on fire, according to Pewee Valley Fire Chief Bob Hamilton.

    When fire crews arrived around 11:30 p.m., residents had extinguished much of the fire, Hamilton said.

    The fire caused no major damage but about a dozen people were inside the home when Crawford allegedly set it ablaze.

  • Holiday weekend hijinks

    It was all work and no play for local police and fire departments during Memorial Day weekend, with numerous arrests, citations and fires throughout the county.

    Oldham County Police, La Grange Police and the Kentucky State Police increased patrols this weekend as part of the national “click it or ticket” campaign.

    Kentucky State Police arrested a Crestwood man for heroin possession. See sidebar, A2.

  • Crestwood man arrested for heroin possession

    Police arrested an Oldham County man for possession of heroin on Sunday night. 

    Troopers from Kentucky State Police Post 5 arrested Cody Ray Russo, 18, of Crestwood, after they discovered he was allegedly in possession of eight ounces of heroin.  

    According to police, Russo pulled into a McDonald’s parking lot in Pendleton after being stopped for not wearing his seat belt around 9 p.m. Sunday.

  • Teacher admits to having sex with students

    A former high school teacher and La Grange resident arrested last summer for sexual abuse involving students is unlikely to serve jail time. 

    Shannon Hirchert, a special needs teacher at Shelbyville’s Martha Layne Collins High School in 2010-11, pleaded guilty Monday to six counts of first-degree sexual abuse and distribution of obscene matter.

    Hirchert, 43, reached a plea agreement with Shelby County prosecutors.
