  • Defense: Accused double-murderer was 'standing his ground'

    An attorney for the Oldham County man accused of double murder says the defendant was simply “standing his ground” when he shot and killed a pregnant woman and her sister at his Covington Ridge Farm last winter. 

    Robert Riley, a La Grange attorney representing accused murderer, Ronald T. Evridge, 58, last Thursday asked Oldham Circuit Judge Karen Conrad for an evidentiary hearing that could ultimately grant Evridge immunity from facing civil or criminal proceedings.

  • Accused child molester has past of sexually abusing children

    Prosecutors say a La Grange worker charged with sex crimes against children is a serial child molester who was previously sentenced to at least 10 years in Jefferson County for abusing his 5-year-old daughter and niece. 

    Commonwealth Attorney Courtney Baxter filed records in Oldham Circuit Court earlier this month that indicate Denver Hawkins, 56, of Louisville, has a history of child sex abuse, dating from as early as 1995 when he was convicted of sexually abusing and trying to sodomize two young relatives.

  • Death row inmate's life spared due to jury error

    It has been 12 years since Armott and Edna Porter were murdered in their Crestwood home by their former son-in-law.

    Last week, Miguel Soto, 41, re-entered a guilty plea for those crimes that will spare his life, but keep him in prison without the possibility of parole.

    Soto was sentenced to death in 2000, but a circuit court judge reversed Soto’s death sentence last year because he was denied the right to a fair trial.

  • Video leads to new sex charges against Crestwood man, 54

    A Crestwood man accused of rape and sodomy after he fled to Miami with a 16-year-old girl in 2011 has been indicted for additional criminal charges.

    Toby Mason, now 54, skipped town in May 2011 with a teenager he met several months earlier while playing video games. The teenager packed clothes and toiletries and left home during the night. She left a note for her mother, explaining she left for an adventure and would someday return.

  • Oldham Co. Animal Control officer arrested for taking $25 cash

    An animal control officer who is owed more than $100,000 by Oldham County government for back pay and overtime has been arrested for taking $25 and forging paperwork.

    Police arrested Elmer James "Jim" Nichter Jr., 47, of La Grange, on Wednesday for forgery, official misconduct and theft from the Oldham County Animal Shelter.

  • Drunk man arrested outside Oldham Co. Public Library

    La Grange Police arrested a homeless man outside the Oldham County Public Library for alcohol intoxication.

    Larry Marsee, 49, of La Grange, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. April 3, after police received several complaints of a man disturbing patrons at the library. According to police, he was unable to stand or walk due to intoxication.

    He pleaded guilty to the charges in Oldham district court, and said he keeps a stash of liquor under a culvert in La Grange.

  • Contractor arrested for smuggling balloons into La Grange prison

    A Pleasureville man claims he was asked by an inmate at the Kentucky State Reformatory to bring an envelope filled with cash inside the prison.

    But police say the envelope contained balloons with an unknown orange drug inside.

    Police arrested Richard D. Dwyer, 49, of Pleasureville, at the Kentucky State Reformatory on April 4. Court documents list Dwyer as a civilian contractor working at the prison.

  • Goshen man charged for deadly property dispute

    A Goshen man who claims he shot his brother-in-law in self-defense Oct. 15 is now charged with reckless homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

    Police arrested Emmitt Pendleton, 50, Oct. 15 after a shooting at Pendleton’s home in the 5200 block of U.S. 42.

    Pendleton told police he shot his brother-in-law, Richard Hild, in self-defense during an argument about a utility trailer.

    Police found Hild’s body in the driveway after Pendleton called 911.

  • Prospect doctor arrested on drug charges after reporting burglary

    A Prospect doctor who called 911 to report an alleged burglary landed himself in jail when police found cocaine and other drugs in his home and he admitted to firing a 9mm handgun inside.

    Alan B. “Barry” Klein, 57, of Prospect, erroneously reported a burglary at his Hillcrest residence about 5:40 p.m. March 7 in the 12800 block of Deer Cross Drive.

    Klein told police there were four people burglarizing his home.

  • Crestwood man bound mother with duct tape, stole car

    A Crestwood man allegedly bound his mother with duct tape, locked her in a bathroom Tuesday and fled to Owensboro behind the wheel of her car.

    According to police, Brian K. Dolan, 37, of Crestwood, became “extremely upset” during a mid-afternoon argument Feb. 12 about moving out of his parents’ home in Briarhill subdivision.
