  • Shooting sends one to hospital, suspect in police custody

    A woman is in the hospital and a suspect is in custody following a shooting at a La Grange apartment complex.

    Police responded to a disturbance call at an apartment in the 900-block of Russell Ave. in the Cedar Court complex about 4:12 p.m. Friday.

    Sgt. Bruce Goodfleisch of La Grange Police Department said the first officer was on scene three minutes later and apprehended the alleged shooter without incident.

  • Scantily clad prisoner who escaped in 2012 pleads guilty

    A Ky. State Reformatory prisoner who escaped in 2012 will serve 10 more years for the 10 hours he spent on the lam wearing only boxer shorts and socks.

    Christopher Eric Claxton, now 33, fled just before 10 p.m. April 4, 2012 from Baptist Health La Grange.

    While wearing only boxer shorts and socks, Claxton overpowered a corrections officer, Eboni S. Matthews and swiped her .38-caliber revolver before running to a wooded area nearby.

  • Vera Bradley files suit against Ladybug Gifts’ former owner

    An iconic brand known for colorful luggage and handbags has filed a lawsuit against a Prospect boutique for bills nearly two years past due.

    Vera Bradley Designs Inc., based in Fort Wayne, Ind., has filed a civil suit against The Lady Bug Inc. and owner Sharalea Mae Bollinger in Oldham County circuit court.

    Vera Bradley creates colorful, patterned luggage, handbags, stationary and accessories sold in Vera Bradley stores and by 3,000 independent retailers nationwide.

  • Goshen man found passed out behind the wheel in S-curve

    A Goshen man who drove his vehicle onto the narrow shoulder of Ky. 329 near Nevel Meade golf course faces a DUI charge.

    Police found Dennis M. Barrett Jr., 21, 1000 block of Forest Lane, Goshen, passed out behind the wheel of his 1999 silver Mitsubishi Eclipse about 5:30 a.m. May 2.

    It took several minutes for officers to wake him, police said.  

    A passerby thought Barrett’s vehicle had crashed in a dangerous stretch of Ky. 329.

  • Animal control officer arrested for taking $25

    An animal control officer who is owed more than $100,000 by county government for back pay and overtime has been arrested for allegedly taking $25 and forging paperwork related to a lost dog.

    Police arrested Elmer James “Jim” Nichter Jr., 47, of La Grange, May 15 for forgery, official misconduct and theft from the Oldham County Animal Shelter.

    According to court documents, the charges stem from an incident May 6 when a woman visited the Oldham County Animal Shelter in Buckner to claim her lost pet.

  • Botched drug deal lands Pewee Valley man behind bars

    Pewee Valley residents called 911 Saturday night after hearing a verbal altercation end with gunfire.

    Oldham County Police responded to the 9300 block of Hillridge Drive at 9:55 p.m. Saturday.

    When police arrived at the home of Caleb N. Fast, 19, he said he had no knowledge of a gun or gunshots.

    Police later found a loaded .25 caliber handgun laying in Fast’s backyard and arrested him on charges of robbery, two counts wanton endangerment, two counts terroristic threatening and tampering with physical evidence.
