  • La Grange man fined for indecent exposure, harassment

    Many residents of Gleneagles Estates recently attended a sentencing hearing as a sign of support for two women who witnessed a half-naked neighbor fondling himself.

    Police arrested Robin Doughty, 57, of 1505 Mahogany Run Drive, for indecent exposure and harassment on March 19.

    Doughty pleaded guilty and District Judge Jerry Crosby sentenced him to 90 days in jail and imposed a $250 fine.

    A woman contacted police after Doughty stood in his front yard with his pants around his ankles while fondling his genitals.

  • Prosecutors want DNA tests of hair found at murder scene

    Prosecutors say four hairs found at the scene of a double-fatal shooting in Dec. 2011 could yield details about the day a Westport man claims two sisters attacked him with a knife.

    Ronald T. “Ronnie” Evridge, 58, faces two murder charges and one count tampering with physical evidence for the Dec. 2011 fatal shooting of a pregnant woman and her sister.

  • Murder trial for drunk driver set Nov. 12, could be sooner

    A Louisville man charged with murder for a drunk-driving crash that led to the death of a Westport man could face trial earlier than scheduled.

    Nicholas W. “Nick” Snoddy appeared in Oldham circuit court recently, where his defense attorney and prosecutors discussed his Nov. 12 trial date.

    Snoddy, 23, has pleaded not guilty to murder, two counts of fleeing or evading police, four counts wanton endangerment of civilians and police officers, DUI (third offense), driving on a DUI-suspended license and speeding 26 mph over limit (or greater).

  • Crestwood man, 54, suffered stroke in jail, still needs evaluation

    The mental status of a Crestwood man indicted for sexual abuse of a teenager is still unclear after the defendant suffered a stroke nearly three months ago at the Oldham County Jail.

    Toby Mason, 54, faces 15 criminal charges, including use of a minor in a sexual performance, sodomy and custodial inference for sex acts he allegedly performed and videotaped with a teen girl in 2011.

    Mason suffered a stroke shortly after indictment in January. He now uses a wheelchair and is housed in a medical unit at the Kentucky State Reformatory while awaiting trial.

  • I-71 traffic stop yields 20 lbs. of pot, thousands in cash

    Police arrested an Oklahoma man traveling Interstate 71 in Oldham County with 20 lbs. of marijuana and thousands in cash.

    According to Kentucky State Police, a traffic stop in the early morning hours of Dec. 22 near mile-marker 24 yielded one ounce of cocaine, 20 lbs. of marijuana, 4.2 oz. marijuana sees and $11,570 in cash.

    Police arrested the driver, Arthur Penrod, 72, of Inola, Okla., on charges of trafficking in marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

  • Goshen residents report late-night gunfire, damage

    A Prospect man’s New Year celebrations started off with a bang — and led to his arrest.

    Demond Colbert, 33, fired his gun into the air multiple times from his backyard in the 1300 block of Pine Hill Court, off Locust Circle. 

    According to Oldham County Police, two rounds went into Colbert’s neighbor’s home. 

    No one was injured.

    Colbert was arrested and charged with two counts of wanton endangerment. His arraignment is scheduled Jan. 14.

  • Officials approve $12M for 250-bed jail

    Oldham County officials will spend up to $12 million to construct a new 250-bed detention center on 20 acres adjacent to the Kentucky State Reformatory, just west of La Grange on Ky. 146. 

    The deal is pending federal approval, according to magistrates, but could be finalized by April 2013 after county officials voted Tuesday to approve the measure.

  • Wildlife rehab looks for second chance

    A state law declaring “agriculture supremacy” is now the center of an ongoing battle between the county and a Goshen wildlife rehab center.

    Second Chances Wildlife Rehabilitation Center founder Brigette Williams is appealing a July 2011 ruling by the county’s board of adjustments and appeals. 

    Judge Karen Conrad heard oral arguments in the case Dec. 12 in Oldham Circuit Court.

  • In-laws & Outlaws: Deadly shooting in Goshen is eerily similar to dispute that killed Oldham bus driver

    Two recent fatal shootings share remarkable similarities — and not just in the disputes, but in the victims’ backgrounds.

    Fatal shootings are uncommon in Oldham County — yet one occurred in Smithfield in September and one in Goshen earlier this month.

    Oldham County Police arrived Oct. 15 at a residence along U.S. 42 near Goshen to find the body of Richard Hild, 63, killed by a gunshot wound in the chest.

  • Fugitive picked up in Louisville 6 months later

    After he fled La Grange in February, police recently arrested a wanted fugitive found in Louisville.

    Officers from probation and parole acted on a tip that Ronnell E. Trice, 39, was living in a Louisville hotel.

    Trice was wanted for three counts of trafficking a controlled substance, first degree, and one count of being a persistent felony offender.
