  • La Grange minister charged with child sex crime

    The FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force arrested an Oldham County minister last week for charges related to the sexual exploitation of children. 

    Howard Key Chambers, 62, minister of music at DeHaven Baptist Church in La Grange, is being charged by the United States Attorney for child enticement after allegedly placing a sexually explicit ad on Craiglist.

    Chambers was present for his detention and preliminary hearing in U.S. District Court in Louisville earlier this week.

  • Two men charged in armed robbery at Thornton’s

    Two men have been arrested in connection to an armed robbery at the Thornton’s on Highway 146 in Buckner.

    Douglas A. Orr, 28, from Pleasureville, was arrested and charged with first degree robbery, first degree assault and receiving stolen property. John Manning, 47, from La Grange, was arrested as an accomplice in the crime and charged with complicity to robbery, first degree and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

  • Endicott takes plea, wraps up alledged gang cases

    Nearly one year to the day of their initial court appearance, the last of eight individuals originally charged with gang activity plead guilty to lesser chargers.

    Casey Endicott, 19, of Shelbyville, plead guilty to possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. A charge of unlawful transaction with a minor was dropped.

    As part of the plea deal, the jail time associated with the charges was conditionally discharged for two years. If Endicott breaks the conditions of the release, he’ll serve up to one year in prison.

  • La Grange man charged with murder in DUI case

    A La Grange man has been arrested and charged with murder in relation to a drunk-driving crash in Trimble County last week.

    Nicholas Mendenhall, 29, was charged with murder, DUI and five counts of wanton endangerment, as well as theft by unlawful taking, auto, after he hit the car of a person who stopped to help his mother with a stalled vehicle.

  • Rematch for family court judge

    It will be a flashback to 2006 as two candidates vie for the position of Family Court Judge of the 12th Judicial Circuit.

    Incumbent Judge Tim Feeley will be up against long-time family law attorney Michael Pate for the same position Feeley won by nearly 7,500 votes in 2006.

    Feeley has been Family Court Judge for Oldham, Henry and Trimble Counties since 2005, but before that he was a Major in the U.S. Army. He served seven years as Assistant U.S. Attorney and nine years in private law practice in Oldham County.

  • Pewee Valley Fire to open second station on Ash Ave.

     

    After a little less than a year of construction, Pewee Valley Fire Protection District will open Station 2 on Ash Avenue.

    The $1.1 million multi-year project will be closer to much of the fire protection district, which consists of Pewee Valley and the Persimmon Ridge area of Shelby County, according to Jerry Nauert, Public Information Officer.

    “We are looking forward to better response times and more fire protection for the people in that part of the area,” Nauert said.

  • Grant awarded for body armor

    Governor Steve Beshear announced that the city of La Grange has been awarded a state Law Enforcement Protection Program (LEPP) grant for $5,610 to purchase body armor vests.

    A total of 30 law enforcement agencies were awarded $170,832 in LEPP grants, which are administered by the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security (KOHS) to give financial help for certain items essential in the course of their duties.
