  • Crestwood native on child abuse review board

     Ed Staats of Crestwood, an advocate for children in foster care and a former longtime journalist, has been appointed to a state board that reviews the cases of children who have died or nearly died due to child abuse or neglect. Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr. recently appointed Staats to the Child Fatality and Near Fatality External Review Panel.

  • Red Cross implements online donor health history

     American Red Cross blood and platelet donors can now help save lives in less time by using the new Red Cross RapidPass online health history system.

    RapidPass streamlines the donation experience by allowing donors to complete pre-donation reading and health history questions online from the convenience of a computer at home or work. It became available to donors locally on Monday, Oct. 26 and is expected to reduce the time donors with a RapidPass spend at blood drives by up to 15 minutes.

  • Kentucky State Penitentiary receives perfect score

     Kentucky State Penitentiary (KSP) received a perfect score during its Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) audit. Signed into law Sept. 4, 2003, PREA is intended to address the detection, prevention, reduction and prosecution of sexual harassment and abuse in correctional facilities in the country.

     American Legion meeting

    The monthly meeting of the Oldham County Post #39 American Legion will be held on the first Thursday of each month. The Nov. 5 meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Oldham County Post #39 American Legion building located at 2301 West Highway 146 at the eastern end of the Oldham Fairgrounds in La Grange. Refreshments will be available after the meeting. All veterans are welcome.

  • Nominations open for OC Day parade grand marshal

     The Project Guild of La Grange is now accepting nominations for grand marshal of the 2016 Oldham County Day Parade.

    Oldham County Day – always the third Saturday in July – is slated for Saturday, July 16, 2016. 

  • Scouts clean up at park

     On Saturday, Oct. 17, cub scouts and boy scouts from Pack and Troop 200 joined the Rotary Club for a cleanup day at The Glen, a La Grange city park on Maple Street.

    Come visit the Colonial Christmas Indoor Market Fair on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oldham County History Center.

     University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service is currently offering a forestry webinar series, designed primarily for woodland owners, but is open to anyone interested in woodland, timber and wildlife topics.
