Although no one hit the $51 million Mega Millions jackpot last night there was a ticket worth $1,000,000 sold in Kentucky.

The $1 million ticket matched all five numbers but not the Mega Ball in Tuesday night’s drawing. The lucky ticket holder(s) also chose to play the Megaplier feature. The second prize would normally pay $250,000 but by selecting Megaplier, the prize is an automatic win of $1 million. Megaplier costs $1 per Mega Ball play.  

Flocks of camera crews arrived in town Thursday to cover the city’s bird problem that many residents didn’t even know existed. 

The large group of birds — reported by residents as “tens of thousands” — are roosting nightly in a wooded area of Jericho Road, just outside of downtown La Grange.

Now, national media typically wouldn’t be interested in a large bird flock. But a down-to-earth, middle-aged couple shooting off a sound cannon to scare them away? Definitely.

For years, La Grange officials have let delinquent property taxes slide — but not any longer.

City attorney Steve Emery said the city has filed a lawsuit to collect back taxes from 2002 through 2005.

There are 34 properties with delinquent tax bills according to Emery. 

La Grange city officials filed a motion Dec. 1 for a judge to reverse his decision in their case against a former mayor.

City officials claim Elsie Carter, whose term ended last December, left office with more than $4,500 in city property. 

City Attorney Steve Emery requested default judgement after Carter failed respond within 20 days to a May court order. Carter filed a response several days after the deadline.

But Oldham Circuit Court Special Judge Bailey Taylor denied default judgement and called the May court order ambiguous.
