  • County offers hazardous waste collection to residents, Oct. 10

     A Hazardous Waste Collection will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Oldham County Fairgrounds, 2401 West Highway 146, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Acceptable items include:

    •  Oil-based or lead paints, varnishes, stains and solvents such as paint thinner, mineral spirits, degreasers, wood preservatives

    •  Compact and tube fluorescent light bulbs, PCB ballasts

  • Coaches visit South Oldham Rotary

     Friday, Sept. 25, the South Oldham Rotary Club had the pleasure of having South Oldham High School football coach Jamie Reed and Oldham County High School football coach Mike Schatzer as their guest speakers. The coaches shared with the club that what student athletes do off the field is more important what they do on the field.  

  • 2016 piggy bank contest announced

     Oldham County will once again be participating in the Piggy Bank Design Contest, hosted by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. The Piggy Bank Design Contest encourages youth to use their creativity while learning the importance of saving money and reducing debt.

     Get crafty in Pewee

    Arts and Crafts Day in Pewee Valley will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in several locations in Pewee Valley.

    Pewee Valley Woman’s Club and St. James Episcopal Church sponsor a juried arts & crafts day featuring over 75 art and craft vendors.  Along with the crafts, the day includes live demonstrations, food, silent auctions and a chance to split the pot.

  • Sister honored

     Sister Francis Louise Johnson, who served as pastoral associate at St. Aloysius Parish, Pewee Valley, from 1989-2002, is celebrating her 60th jubilee as an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph.

  • Strike up the band

     South Oldham High School’s Marching Band preformed their show “Snake in the Grass” in competition the past two Saturdays winning awards. At Eastern High Sschool on Sept. 19, the Marching Dragons placed second in their class and fourth in finals competition. At Ballard High School on Sept. 26, the Dragons placed first in their class and took both Best Percussion and Best Colorguard awards and placed fifth in finals competition.

  • Teens-N-Training seeks to educate teens about drugs and alcohol

     Teens-n-Training, a program dedicated to educating local students about drugs and alcohol while allowing them to have fun, was held at South Oldham High School on Sept. 26.

     Take a sign, plant a sign


    The Oldham County Republican Woman’s Club will hold Take a Sign, Plant a Sign, Grow a Sign, where anyone can pick up a political sign for the upcoming election.

    The pickup locations include: 2824 N. Highway 53 in La Grange, 4724 Old La Grange Road in Buckner and 6700 W Highway 42 in Goshen.

  • Parker speaks at Civic Club

     Kevin Parker, assistant chief of the South Oldham Fire Department in Crestwood, gave a presentation to the Crestwood Civic Club on Friday, Sept. 11, which detailed the statistics of that tragic day in history and answered questions from club members.
