  • Crestwood council approves proposed Walmart

    Walmart will once again have a store in Crestwood, after the city council approved a proposed SuperCenter store on Veterans Memorial Parkway at a special meeting Wednesday.

    The Crestwood City Council approved an ordinance rezoning the property at 6701 Veterans Memorial Parkway, also known as Highway 329 Bypass, as well as a development plan for the Walmart, unanimously.

  • Agent returns to La Grange with new insurance business

     

    A familiar name in Oldham County is bringing his business back to La Grange.

    Matthew Carter, son of County Attorney John Carter, has brought his insurance business to 2311 S. Highway 53 in La Grange, after spending a few years in Jefferson County.

    Aines, Carter and Associates specializes in insurance options for people 60 and older, Carter said. They often help seniors transition into Medicare, deal with supplements and other health and life insurance needs, he said.

  • Crestwood to review proposed Walmart

    The Crestwood City Council has set a special meeting to take up an ordinance that would allow Walmart to return to the city.

    Crestwood Mayor Dennis Deibel said the council would meet Wednesday, April 16 to consider a rezoning ordinance that would clear the way for a Walmart SuperCenter to be built at 6701 Veterans Memorial Parkway, also known as KY-392 Bypass.

    Deibel said the reason for the special meeting, instead of the council’s regular meeting, is due to the significance of the issue.

  • AT&T seeks tower in Ballardsville

    Two months after abandoning plans to build a cell tower in Pewee Valley, AT&T is looking to build one in another Oldham County location.

    The company is proposing a 199-foot tower to be built off Ky. 22 in Ballardsville, according to a public notice filed by Ansco and Associaties, a Georgia-based company. However, no application to build the tower has been given to the Oldham County Planning and Zoning Commission, Assistant Director Brian Davis said.

    A dream 10 years in the making has finally taken form in Crestwood.

    Longtime friends Gabriel Frankel and Raul Blanco opened the windows to Gara Empanada on March 7. The drive-through or walk-up restaurant in the Pioneer Village parking lot off Veterans Memorial Parkway serves seven flavors of empanadas accompanied by homemade sauces.

    “Every country has a form of empanada with a different name or style,” Blanco said. “We are trying to offer the best empanada for the community.”

    Oldham County is home to two of the 104 certified farm markets across the Commonwealth recently accepted into the 2014 Kentucky Farm Bureau Certified Roadside Farm Market Program. The Oldham County members are: Boone Gardiner Garden Center and Sherwood Acres Beef.

    In joining the Kentucky Farm Bureau Certified Roadside Farm Market Program, these markets have committed to offering quality products and service to their customers. Their acceptance by Farm Bureau tells customers that they meet the highest standards of quality, freshness and marketing appeal.

  • Tri-County Ford celebrates move up Interstate 71

    A one-mile move up the road is already paying dividends for a longtime Oldham County business.

    Tri-County Ford, which has been in Oldham County in some form or fashion since 1986, recently moved to just off Exit 18 off I-71 to 4032 Commerce Parkway.

    Owner Gary Haupt said the move to Exit 18 from their place off Exit 17 was due to the changes surrounding Commerce Parkway and I-71 in that area of Buckner.

  • Chamber will reside in former Southern States

    A space that once sold feed, seed and farming supplies will now serve as a point of entry into the county’s commerce and tourism opportunities.

    Months ago George Rawlings of the Rawlings Foundation purchased the former Southern States property that included three buildings and lots for storage and parking. While speculation has run rampant about how he would use the spaces, Rawlings had remained quiet regarding the project, but recently made an announcement about one particular use for the retail building facing First Street.
