  • ConAgra Foods buys Ralcorp, parent company of Buckner plant

    ConAgra Foods announced a hefty purchase this morning to stock their pantry.

    ConAgra, owner of Banquet, Chef Boyardee, Egg Beaters, Healthy Choice, Hebrew National, Hunt's, Marie Callender's, Orville Redenbacher's, PAM, Peter Pan, Reddi-wip, Slim Jim and Snack Pack food brands, has acquired Ralcorp Holdings Inc.

    Ralcorp, valued at $6.8 billion including debt, is the largest manufacturer of private label food in the United States and is the parent company of Carriage House, which operates a plant in Buckner.

  • Pie Kitchen opens in Prospect

    The popular local chain Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen is now open  on U.S. 42 at the corner of River Road.

    Pie Kitchen owner Adam Burckle said the company has looked for a Prospect location for about four years — and thinks he found the perfect spot in the former Java Brewing Company.

    “It’s historically an old train station,” he said. “It’s nice that it will still be a gathering place.”

  • Pie kitchen planning Prospect location

    North Oldham residents with a sweet tooth will have a new place to grab a bite when a new dessert shop opens in Prospect.

    Popular local chain Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen will open in mid-October on U.S. 42 at the corner of River Road.

  • La Grange business selected to carry GMC trucks, SUVs

    Champion Chevrolet-Buick in La Grange has added the GMC brand to its name and its inventory.

    GMC officials recently announced that Champion Chevrolet had been selected to carry GMC trucks and SUVs, in addition to the dealership's Chevy and Buick inventory.

    Champion Chevrolet-Buick-GMC is owned by Crestwood resident Fred Tolsdorf.

    GMC has a long history of providing quality trucks, but is now transitioning with the addition of more elite interior offerings as well as an abundance of technology.

  • Oldham Reserve needs $5 million

    Local officials have continued discussions about how to move forward on development of Oldham Reserve business park. 

    Members of the Oldham-La Grange Development Authority met with officials from the city of La Grange and fiscal court to discuss the development’s history and plans to move forward.

    The Oldham Reserve project began eight years ago when the county and city governments jointly purchased 1,000 acres off New Moody Lane in La Grange.

  • Prospect Kroger to expand

    After a lengthy process, members of Prospect City Council gave Kroger officials the go-ahead to expand its Prospect Village location at a meeting Monday.

    Officials proposed the expansion about 15 months ago but had to rezone property and receive waivers and an ordinance change from city council. 

    Kroger officials are now waiting approval from Louisville Metro City Council because part of the property is not within Prospect city limits.

  • Expansion could add 200 jobs

    More than 200 new jobs could be added through a possible expansion to a Buckner facility.

    The Carriage House Co. is a subsidiary of Ralcorp that currently employs about 280 workers at the Oldham County location.

    The company is the nation’s largest supplier of store-brand preserves, jellies, peanut butter, syrups and dressings.

  • Medicare changes could make equipment tough to obtain

    Changes to Medicare could make it more difficult for patients to obtain certain medical equipment. The changes could also bankrupt small medical equipment companies.

    The changes will save Medicare billions of dollars — billions of taxpayer dollars.

    The question, though, is at what cost those savings will come.

  • Gee to speak at leadership event

    In honor of International Women’s Day and Kentucky Women’s History month, the Prospect Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a one-day leadership conference.
    Four sessions, presented by local professionals, will take place in addition to a luncheon, featuring Dawne Gee, WAVE 3 news anchor.
    The event is 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 28 at Hunting Creek Country Club. For information call 228-7493.
