    Judy Best, 57, of Prospect, died Monday Jan. 18, 2010, at her residence.  She was director of quality/risk management at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange.  She previously worked in the quality department at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.  She was a graduate of University of Louisville and an elder of Beargrass Christian Church.

  • Shirley Margaret Schlatter McElroy, 98

    Shirley Margaret Schlatter McElroy, 98, died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, in La Grange, with her loving family by her side.ee  She will be deeply missed. Shirley was born in 1911 in Dick Johnson Township in rural Clay County, Ind., as the third of nine children of the late William and Selma Septima Rojhan Schlatter.ee  She graduated from Van Buren High School in Van Buren, Ind., in 1929.ee  Three years later, she married John William “Bill” McElroy.

  • Mildred Louise Bishop, 82

    Mildred Louise Bishop, 82, of Fairdale, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness Fairdale Congregation.  Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Maurice T. Bishop; son, Earl Bishop; sister, JoAnn Mills; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.  Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jehovah’s Witness Fairdale Congregation, 811 Mt. Holly Road.  Oldham County Funeral Home, of La Grange handled arrangements. 

  • Olden Franklin ‘Frank’ Durham, 75

    Olden Franklin “Frank” Durham, 75, of Crestwood, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at his residence. He was retired from the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War.

  • Rosina Morrison, 82

    Rosina Morrison, 82, of Pewee Valley, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Roger Morrison Sr., who died in 1983. Survivors include a son, James (Paula) Morrison Jr. of La Grange; two daughters, Debbie Morrison and Sandy Hanley, both of Pewee Valley; and three grandchildren. The body was cremated.  A candlelit graveside memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. Friday at Harrods Creek Cemetery in Brownsboro.

  • Ruby Crawford, 69

    Ruby Crawford, 69, of La Grange, passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Baptist Hospital Northeast.

    Survivors include her son, John Crawford; daughter, Angela Fugate; two brothers, Levis and Bobby Wright; and four sisters, Mary Jane Riley, Shirley Huff, Kathy McIntosh and Dorothy Ashcraft.

    Services are 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home and Cremation Services in La Grange. Visitation was Wednesday.

  • Al Morrison, 54

    Al Morrison, 54 of La Grange, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange.

    He was born May 24, 1955, in Oldham County to Ben Edward Morrison and Audrey Mae King Morrison.ee

    Al worked most of his life in a grocery where he loved interacting with the people.ee

  • Marjorie Cramer Wilson, 89

    Marjorie Cramer Wilson, 89, of La Grange, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Baptist Hospital Northeast.

    She was a retired school teacher and a member of Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church.

    Survivors include a son, James H. (Janice) Wilson; step-grandson, John Hawel; and a nephew, Robert Cramer.

    Services were Tuesday at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood. Memorial contributions may go to the American Diabetes Association.

  • Samuel Hugh Tichenor Jr., 75

    Samuel Hugh Tichenor Jr., 75, of Pewee Valley, went to be with his heavenly father Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Baptist Hospital East.

    He was and elder and director of New Covenant Church Mission in Louisville. He worked at GE for more than 34 years and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

    eeSurvivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Lorine; two daughters, Theresa Lynn (Richard) Dickman and Lisa (Anthony) Bohannon; a brother, Thomas Tichenor; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

  • Frances H. Kirby, 91

    Frances H. Kirby, 91, of Louisville, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2010.

    She was a licensed practical nurse and a homemaker.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle May and William F. Melton; and her husband, Arthur Kirby.
