  • Cynthia Malone Powell, 43

    Cynthia Malone Powell, 43, of Crestwood, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at her residence. She was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church and a former employee of Oldham County High School. Survivors include her daughter, Jordyn Powell; her father, Tom (Dee) Malone; her sister, Laura (Doug) Tucker; her brother, Scott (Becky) Malone; best friend, Cara Hill and Cara’s daughter Falon; and three nephews, Cody Malone, Josh Malone and Cole Tucker.

  • Carolyn L. Kinker, 67

     Carolyn L. Kinker, 67, of Rowan County, died April 12, 2010. Oldham County Funeral Home handled arrangements.

  • Eugene T. Johnson Jr., 57

    Eugene T. Johnson Jr., 57, of La Grange, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010. 

    Survivors include his mother, Ollie Johnson; a son, David Moffitt; a daughter, Anitra Johnson; five brothers, Leonard Johnson, Tommy Johnson, Ronald Johnson, Louis Johnson and Darrell Johnson; three sisters, Stephanie Yousouf, Karen El-Maulano and Geraldine Johnson; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

    Services were Monday at the First Baptist Church, La Grange.

    Burial took place in Valley of Rest Cemetery.

    Michael D. Wallace, 54, of La Grange, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010. 

    Burial is private.

  • Gerald Dwayne Whittaker, 44

    Gerald Dwayne “Jerry” Whittaker, 44, lost his battle with lung cancer on Monday, April 12, 2010.

    He was born March 3, 1966, in Jefferson County and worked as a landscaper and tree climber. He was a member of Keys Ferry Baptist Church, an avid hunter and fisherman and loved living on the farm in Mississippi for the past two years.

  • Kiara L. Hinkle, 21

    Kiara L. Hinkle, 21, of Louisville, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010.

    She was a member of the Lexington Church of Christ, a 2007 graduate of South Oldham High School and a student studying architecture at the University of Kentucky.

    Survivors include her parents, Kerry and Twala Hinkle Sr.; a brother, Kerry Hinkle Jr.; grandmother, Dixie Doss; and a host of relatives and cherished friends.

    Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Louisville Church of Christ, 1201 S. Fourth St., Louisville.

  • George Norman Gill, 75

    George Norman Gill, 75, of Pewee Valley, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital.

    He retired as publisher of the Louisville Courier-Journal after a 33-year career. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

    His many community contributions included serving as president of the Louisville Chamber of Commerce, board chair for the American Printing House for the Blind, president of the Louisville Rotary Club and campaign chair for the United Way.

    After retirement he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity.

  • Bertha McAlister Karr, 91

    Bertha McAlister Karr, 91, of Buckner, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Springhurst Health and Rehab.

    Survivors include her husband, Frank; three sons, Frank (Jeanne) Karr, Fred (Rosemary) Karr and Jerry (Donna) Karr; and two daughters, Linda (Judd) May and Mary (Jerry) Overman.

    Services were Friday at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood.

    Burial took place in Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

  • David G. Harbin, 65

    David G. Harbin, 65, of Prospect, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at his home. 

    He was a retired human resources manager with Lauyans and Co.

    David served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. 

    He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Prospect and a member of the Preston Masonic Lodge No. 281 where he had reached the status of 32nd degree Mason.  He was also a Shriner and member of the Scottish Rite. 

    David had a great love for family and the river. 

  • Lee Roy Bell

    Lee Roy Bell, 72, of Westport, died Thursday, April 8, 2010.

    He was retired from Vermont American power tools and a member of Westport Baptist Church.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Edith Bell; and a brother, Lawrence Bell.

    Survivors include his wife, Carol J. Bell; two daughters, Karen (Dwayne) Miller and Sondra McCarthy; two brothers, Raymond (Pauline) Bell and Lewis (Nancy) Bell; three grandchildren, Nichole (Matthew) Neuner, Ryan Miller and Kaitlin McCarthy; and a great-grandson, Carter Lamar Neuner.
