    La Grange Elementary teacher Terri Griffin said her Christmas wish is that her students know the true reason for the season.

    Her favorite holiday tradition is celebrating Christmas Eve dinner with family.

    Griffin said her students been nice.

    "They know Santa is watching on the Santa Cam!" she said.

    This season, her students have learned to help others.

    "We have made cards for others and discussed how it feels better to give than get," she said.

  • Dear Santa: Letters from Ann Shackleton's class

    Locust Grove Elementary teacher Ann Shackleton said her wish for her first-graders in 2012 is "for each and every one of my students to feel confident in our room and to know they are smart, kind and wonderful!"

    Her favorite holiday tradition involves an ornament.

    "Each year we write our wish for the New Year and place it in our 'wishes' ornament," she said. "It is fun to read our wishes from last year."

    Buckner Elementary teacher Cheri Graf said her wish for her kindergarten and first-grade students is that they'll all stay healthy!

    Graf said her favorite holiday tradition is watching silly Christmas
    movies while decorating the Christmas tree with her family. 

    She thinks her students are probably included on Santa's nice list this year.

    "My students have been extra nice this year!  They are such a compassionate, sweet group of kids," she said.

    Locust Grove Elementary teachers Mrs. Benson and Mrs. Lund said they hope their kindergartners make Jesus the reason for celebration this holiday season.

    Benson said her favorite holiday tradition is driving around looking at
    Christmas lights with my family.

    The students have learned to help others this season by giving of themselves, not just things you "buy."

  • Eagle Scout projects benefit City of Prospect

    Six students, including two from Oldham County, have been named honorary citizens of Prospect for donating their hand-crafted Boy Scout projects to the city’s Putney Pond and Woodlands.

    Matthew Greene, 14, and Nick Patterson, 15, both of Goshen, were among four other scouts recognized at the city’s December meeting.

    Patterson, a sophomore at North Oldham High School, collected and cut red cedar and spent his weekends building five park benches in his parents’ garage. The benches are now part of an outdoor classroom in the Woodlands.

    Centerfield Elementary teacher Carrie Kapfhammer said her Christmas wish for her second-graders is health and happiness for the boys and girls  and their families.

    Kapfhammer said wrapping presents and watching others open their presents are her favorite moments of Christmas.

    The majority of her students should be included on Santa's nice list, and have worked hard at school.

    "My students have been very nice this year," she said. "They are kind to one another, share and help those in need."

    "My students are very cooperative and considerate," she said.
