  • U.S. Army Pvt. Stephen E. McCoy recently graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

    He is the son of David McCoy of Goshen.

    McCoy is a 2008 graduate of North Oldham High School.

     

  • Eric and Denise Coon of La Grange, recently represented the Humane Society of Oldham County at a one-day workshop in Indianapolis, presented by Petfinder.com, the online database of homeless pets. 

    Topics included fundraising, marketing, and other strategies to increase adoptability of animals.

  • A group of Native Americans camped in Westport Friday in the middle of a 680-mile – or 12,000-year – journey, depending on how you look at it.

    The group is canoeing the Ohio River along the entire Kentucky border from West Virginia to Missouri. They’re doing it to teach people about the history of Native Americans in Kentucky.

    Many people think of Native Americans as living in the west, not realizing they’re also native to Kentucky, traveler Jerry “Two Feather”  Thornton said.

  • Aidyn Lee Tingle was born May 6, 2009, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. He weighed 6 pounds and 6 ounces and measured 18 and a half inches long.

    His parents are Tyler L. Tingle and Kristina M. Whelehan of La Grange. 

    Grandparents are Colleen Maeder of Georgetown and Ronnie and Mary Tingle of La Grange.

    Great-grandparents are Earl and the late Minnie Tingle, the late Don and Linda Collier, Carmen Espinal, Edward Whelehan and the late Susie Russ.

  • Linda G. Mason, circuit court clerk for Oldham County, recently participated in the 2009 Circuit Court Clerks Summer College in Lexington. 

    The Administrative Office of the Courts hosted the college, which offered sessions on how to improve and safeguard the Office of Circuit Court Clerk. Participants received 12.25 hours of continuing education credit. 

    Circuit court clerks attended sessions on managing jury records, serving domestic violence victims, maintaining court records and promoting excellent customer service. 

  • The South Oldham Lions Club is proud to host this year’s Oldham County Backyard Barbecue and Craft Festival 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 12. 

    The park-like setting of The Maples, in Crestwood on W. Ky. 22, has been selected as the location for this year’s Lions Club fundraising event and admission is free.

    Registration for participants will be accepted through July 31. 

  • Members of the Oldham County FFA recently attended the state FFA convention at Rupp Arena in Lexington. 

    Nick Fleitz of the Oldham County FFA Chapter was named the Kentucky Association FFA State Vice-President at the convention. He was elected by the delegates to serve as the Kentucky Association FFA Vice-President for 2009-10.

  • James and Anna Bailey of Oneonta, Ala. announce the engagement of their daughter, Maegen Bailey to   William Carter, son of Alan and Judy Carter of Crestwood. 

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Donald and Adelia Kaestner of Sylacauga, Ala. and the late Clarence and Olive Bailey of Pinedale Shores, Ala.

  • Lauren Nicole Chavez and Evan Alexander Rosenman were married June 6 at the home of the groom’s parents.

    The bride is the daughter of Pam Isaacs of Crestwood and Victor Chavez of Chicago. She graduated from South Oldham High School and attended the University of Louisville.

    The groom is the son of Barbara and Michael Rosenman of Smithfield. He graduated from South Oldham High School and attended the University of Louisville.

    The couple resides in St. Matthews.

  • U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Adam L. Brewer and Airman Eric J. Elsenbroek recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in  San Antonio.

    They completed eight weeks of training in military discipline, values, physical fitness, and basic warfare.

    Brewer is the son of Laura and Dave Brewer of Crestwood and a 2003 graduate of South Oldham High School. Elsenbroek is the son of Eric C. Elsenbroek of Crestwood and a 2006 graduate of Buckner High School.
